(Maryland Band)
For 17-year-old twins, Max and Spencer Ernst, music has always been an important part of their lives. Growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland, there was always music playing in their home. When they began creating their own music together on piano during their pre-school years, it was obvious that this was not just an interest but a natural talent. By age ten, they formed a band with some neighborhood friends, their sound heavily influenced by such bands as Third Eye Blind, Coldplay and Incubus.
After playing countless festivals and venues the next couple of years, they placed in a county wide "Battle of the Bands" with their own compositions. Word of mouth quickly spread about the band and, as a result, they sold out a 600-capacity show during the pre-sale for a performance in a school auditorium. At the core of it all, the band was motivated by Max & Spencer’s unending desire to make music their life.
As their buzz spread throughout the DC area, Dave Connelly from the band ebo (Maverick Records) was put in touch with them by their manager Alan Stewart. The creative connection between Dave, Max & Spencer was immediate and resulted in an amazingly hooky, melody-driven demo of 3 songs, recorded in Dave's home studio. Around the same time, producer Chris Keup heard about Max & Spencer through some of his relatives in the DC area. Skeptical about the abilities of a couple of 15 year olds, he first listened to their demo on the way to their first meeting. About half-way through the performance of their first song, Chris knew they were something special and immediately proposed that they come to Charlottesville and record some demo tracks. The result of this recording session was 6 great songs.
(BOSTON Band)
Trustfall is an American rock band out of Boston, Massachusetts, formed in December 1998. Trustfall is Ryan Potts - Vocals, Zachary Weber - Guitar, Steve Cronin - Guitar, Andy K. - Bass, and Matt Raftery - Drums. Adam Morse was the original lead singer from 1998 to 1999 with whom they created their debut album "Bright". Local and regional gigs followed and the band gained praise from local critics as well as many internet fanzines. In 2000 the band put together and released their infamous, independently produced, and now out of print "four song EP". The band has a melodic more ambient new metal direction, that has close ties to acts like Tool, The Deftones and a touch of Ultraspank, without the electronic nuances. After some complications, and vague terms, the band broke off somewhat and reformed into No December. They released their debut in 2001 "In the Essence of Innocence." As of May 2003, No December's singer Ryan Potts was replaced by TJ DeMonte, and the rest of the members remain as Matt Raftery - Drums, Zachary Weber - Guitar, Andy K. - Bass, and Steve Cronin - Guitar.

You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
Paco wore yellow
Marcus wears red
Scene popped off
Tio said they'll have another angel the sky
Then he bled out for 17 minutes and he died
Updated the statistics
Put it in its category
West side Long Branch saw another tragedy
I don't know what sparked the thought that got in to his brain
But I guess what I'm saying is that shit's fucking lame
Oh the humanity
So far away from here don't get greedy
You don't want what we got
Oh the empathy
Stay away from me
You're all so greedy
You're all so greedy
Aspirant on the righteous path
Dilutes themselves and falls into traps
Thinks less of material nature
Hides themself in a house of glass
Reveres the present and avoids the past
Can only hope for the peace to last
Expects results and all their dreams catered
Clings to hope of being non attached
So be greedy
Don't you want what I got
Don't be greedy
You don't want what I got
The first stanza of the song "Help!" brings a nostalgic feel with a reference to the popular song "You Are My Sunshine". The lyrics convey the depth of the singer's love for the person addressed in the lyrics, who is the singer's only source of happiness. The phrase "please don't take my sunshine away" denotes a feeling of dependency on the addressed person. Overall, the first stanza brings out the singer's vulnerable and honest expression of love.
The song's second stanza takes a turn and takes us into a scene of violence and tragedy. The scene is set with characters wearing different colors, and a sudden burst of violence that ends in someone getting shot. Tio's words about another angel appearing in the sky after the person bleeds out for 17 minutes is a poignant moment in the song. The lyrics then shift to a commentary on the statistics of violence and the feeling of apathy surrounding it. The final lines "shit's fucking lame" expresses the singer's disappointment and frustration towards the senseless violence.
The final stanza talks about a person aspiring to live a life of righteousness, yet falling into the trap of materialism. The lyrics talk about hoping for a peaceful life, avoiding the past, and clinging to the hope of being non-attached. The final lines, "be greedy, don't you want what I got" and "you don't want what I got" express a warning about the negative aspects of greed.

My dad died at 47, when I was only 13.
Grief is like sitting on the beach.
- Sometimes, it's low tide, and the land is dry. You're numb or able to find joy.
- Sometimes, it's high tide, and you're surrounded by water, maybe even over your head.
- Sometimes the sea seems calm and it's a sunny day, but a big wave will take you by surprise, almost drown you in the shock and undertow.
The keys to surviving the ocean are to have
- Safe ports to rest in (family, friends, favorite memories)
- Anchors to hold you steady.
- To always face the waves head-on. If you run or turn sideways to a wave, it'll capsize the boat. If you face the wave, it'll wash over you. The boat may get filled with water, or a part might break, but you won't sink.
One step, one breath at a time. Keep moving forward, even if you can only go an inch.
I love the book, "Where is Grandpa" by T.A. Barron. It's out of print, but available from used books sellers.

I lost both my parents in 2023. Thank you for this song. Music is so good for the hurting soul.

Amen to that. So sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you. Lost my Dad to lung cancer in June 2012. Worst day of my life.

My dad died early 2022 12 weeks from diagnosis to passing . This song has so many of his habits in it. He lived abroad and every bar that he made 'his home' he had his spot/favourite chair. He always talked about the weather, and hated every film unless it was One flew over the Cuckoos nest or Weird Science. I cry like a 6 year old girl whenever I hear this song, I'm a 55 year old biker.

My dad died May 9, 2004. Three days before my 16th birthday, we buried him that day. Remember the last conversation we had that morning. Still remember the moment my brother came and got me and broke the news. I have been through horrible things, and nothing has ever touched the pain that day. It will be 20 years this May. I still think of that man every day. MISS YOU SO MUCH OLD MAN.

I'm so sorry

When Trustfall came out, I instantly bought the album to listen to on my way to work. This song being the first track on the album really touched my heart. Everytime I got into the car and this song began to play, I asked myself how hard it must be to lose a parent. A few months later, July 8, I went to your concert in Cologne and your performance made my tear up. Little had I known at that point that my father would have only a few more weeks to live. He died unexpectedly in August. It took me a few more months to listen to this song again.
