Tulipa Ruiz Chagas was born in Santos, São Paulo on October 19, 1978. Her father, Luiz Chagas, was a member of Itamar Assumpção's live band Isca de Polícia; in an interview, she stated her name was a tribute to one of her father's favorite films, The Black Tulip (1964). After her parents divorced, she moved with her mother Graziella and brother Gustavo to São Lourenço, Minas Gerais, where she was raised; after growing up, she worked at a record store until moving to São Paulo at 22 years old to study journalism at the PUC-SP.
She made part of many musical ensembles during her college years, but only began her career officially in 2009.[3] Her critically acclaimed debut album, Efêmera, came out one year later, and its eponymous song was featured in the soundtrack of the video game FIFA 11. Its 2012 follow-up, Tudo Tanto, awarded her a Multishow Brazilian Music Award and an APCA Award. Her third album, Dancê, which came out in 2015, awarded her a Latin Grammy Award. In 2013 she was a guest musician on rapper Emicida's debut O Glorioso Retorno de Quem Nunca Esteve Aqui, and in 2016 she collaborated with former Titãs member Nando Reis on his eighth solo album, Jardim-Pomar.
Her most recent release, Tu, came out in 2017 and counts with a guest appearance by Mexican musician Adan Jodorowsky, son of filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky.
Aside from her musical career, Tulipa has also provided illustrations for magazines, album covers, concert posters and notebooks; her artworks are showcased in her official Tumblr page.
Algo Maior
Tulipa Ruiz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Siga atentamente as instruções vide bula atrás
Tá pra nascer algo entre nós que pode trazer
Consequencias irreversíveis, perturbar
Sim vai chover, vai ser melhor chuva, chuva
Chuva que só troveja mas não cai
The lyrics of "Algo Maior" by Tulipa Ruiz talk about the idea that something bigger is about to happen and it will break the stagnation in life. The singer assures the listener that there is something greater than everything they have ever seen, read, felt, or heard. She encourages the listener not to be afraid to let go and be happy, to find what truly suits them. The message is to embrace change and new beginnings and be ready to face the unknown.
The song also speaks about the importance of human connection. It emphasizes that nobody can live all alone, and we need to learn to trust each other. The lyrics suggest that following instructions is crucial to avoiding any unfavorable outcome. Tulipa emphasizes the inevitability of change, and how it can lead to irreversible consequences that may disrupt the existing order, but it should not scare us.
The last line of the song suggests that there's a storm coming that could be better than the current situation, even if it only thunders and doesn't pour. The whole message of the song is to encourage the listener to embrace the unknown and anticipate something greater that may be coming.

Muito linda a música, a letra, os arranjos, a alma da canção! Delícia de ouvir! Adorei as ilustrações do Tu, o álbum todo tá mui belo, me lembrou o "stop moviment" da música "Do I Wanna Know?", Arctic Monkeys. Axé! Ahow!

Apenas nessa versão que consegui me conectar com a música, pois ela tem uma divisão em que a mesma frase é dita em pedaços, o que exige concentração e na versão Dancê não me cativou como essa versão. Apaixonante!
