"This is the record I've wanted to make for a long time now. It's also a first for me. My first solo album, my first country album, and I'm even producing and engineering all by my lonesome," Herrera tells us. "I've been writing country songs since around 1998 and I'm finally in the studio recording some of the songs."
Herrera's country music project may have been a long time coming but it's definitely worth the wait. The record is still in the very early stages and there is no current release date. Check here for performance dates and for news on Tumbledown's much anticipated first release.
Atlantic City
Tumbledown Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
your coast is clear and nothing feels quite right
you've always been there for me in the past
I wanted to return the favor, make it up to you at last
we're out of time to kill
and empty pockets to be filled
just put it all on black don't look back
and maybe we'll win someday
and maybe we'll win someday in Atlantic City
the odds are stacked against us but we don't care
driving through the night to meet you there
the reddest signal was this seaside town
but now it's light is burning
it's burning to the ground
we're out of time to kill
and empty pockets to be filled
just put it all on black don't look back
and maybe we'll win someday
and maybe we'll win someday
and maybe we'll win someday in Atlantic City
Atlantic City always play for keeps
wide awake when other cities sleep
black as night my coffee keeps me warm
fasten up jalopies, driving straight into the storm
we're out of time to kill
and empty pockets to be filled
just put it all on black don't look back
and maybe we'll win
maybe we'll win
maybe we'll win
maybe we'll win
and maybe we'll win someday
and maybe we'll win someday
and maybe we'll win someday in Atlantic City
The song "Atlantic City" by Tumbledown is about a restless protagonist who is seeking refuge and a sense of purpose in the city of Atlantic City. The lyrics suggest that the singer is going through a rough patch in life and is hoping to find a fresh start in this city - a sentiment that is encapsulated by lines like "Atlantic City where are you tonight?/ your coast is clear and nothing feels quite right/ you've always been there for me in the past/ I wanted to return the favor, make it up to you at last".
The chorus of the song is an ode to gambling and the hope of striking it big - "just put it all on black don't look back/and maybe we'll win someday/and maybe we'll win someday/and maybe we'll win someday in Atlantic City". The lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling to make ends meet and sees gambling as a way to get out of the rut.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is willing to take a gamble on life and is hoping that Atlantic City will give him the break he needs. However, the odds are stacked against him, and the possibility of failure looms large. Despite this, the singer remains hopeful and determined, willing to take risks and embrace the unknown. In conclusion, "Atlantic City" is a song that speaks to the yearning for adventure, the hope for redemption, and the ever-present desire to take a gamble on life.
