Overall Meaning

In "Screen," Twenty One Pilots explores the idea of putting up a facade in order to conceal one's true feelings or emotions. when I saw tøp in February, they played screen and when everyone started singing "we're broken people" I started to cry, because here I am, in a crowd of thousands of people seeing the two men that saved my life and countless other lives, singing "we're broken people" was so amazing because I feel like no matter your story, everyone in the clique can relate to each other. this song makes me feel like i'm not alone in my dark times and it helps me recover from times where i just feel utterly broken.
i feel so reassured from this song because twenty one pilots' songs (especially screen) teaches people to accept that they're flawed and that they are not alone when they're suffering.
i'd rather be in a room full of other people singing "we're broken people" than have someone tell me that it'll "get better someday" when i know damn well that it won't.
if i were to have a list of my top ten favorite twenty one pilots songs, screen would definitely be up there; it's just such a delivering song with a powerful message that's so special to me.

From time to time I come back here to listen to this song and every time I'm here I turn it up really loud and imagine how it would be to go to their concert and sing along with thousands and thousands of other fans. I imagine how it would be to sing "we're broken people" with so many others and not feel pain while admiting it but only pure, beautiful sadness. Twenty øne Piløts is one of the few bands out there that can turn this phrase into something that doesn't make you feel bad for being broken. That's why I love it, it's forever and ever one of my faves from them.

It was AMAZING!! When I saw them it was 9000 people all singing every lyric to every song and you could just feel the love and energy and healing. These guys change and save lives...mine included.This is one of my favorite songs too and somehow we all felt it was ok to be a little broken. If you get a chance to see them live, DO IT!! Ah you just made my evening with telling me that experience, I felt like it must be something like that but sadly I haven't had a chance yet to see them. AARRGGHH This hiatus is killing me!! I cannot wait to hear their new album (along with everyone other clique member) I get they they are taking a MUCH needed break and I get that they are exhausted from 5+ years of constant touring but...but... but....we just NEED them to come back! There is just something so special about them. I have been to dozens and dozens of concerts from Black Sabbath to Bread, Ed Sheeran to Eminem, Aerosmith to Adele, Macklemore to Meghan Trainor and the Twenty One Pilots concert was , hands down, THE BEST concert experience EVER! If you have watched their concert videos: Car Radio, Lane Boy, etc and especially Trees....It was JUST like that! Better! Josh's back flip off the piano during Holding Onto You, The tambourine catch in HeavyDirtySoul, Josh's drum solo during Lane Boy on the platform held up by the crowd, turning our gunhands into fists in Guns for Hands....All of was just ...simply amazing. I wish I could describe the collective LOVE in that arena. When they did Trees there wasn't a dry eye in the place and the confetti and drumming by both Tyler and Josh was ...there just are no words. I'm so sorry I went on and on but ,YES, it's something you HAVE to experience! I will be hoping very hard that you get to see them wherever you are! Again, sorry for the length but what can I say?! They are simply magnificent. :) |-/

Gosh no wait I need the detailed describtion of this, I loved to read every line, holy sh... ok no cursing tho... but yeah, I mean I watched complete shows on live streams and even fan recordings about some concerts and damn. Just. Damn. I think Twenty One Pilots is one of those bands that really know how to pull out really really good shows that both work with the visual elements without making the quality of their performance any worse. I mean, they have to plan how to perform their songs and how to give the crowd the best and oh my gosh are they doing it good! Well so long I've been to two concerts in my life, and only one of them was really a joy for me so I can't really compare it to anything really, because seeing it is not the same as being there like you did - but just looking at how they do all their live performances I can tell for sure that they are really good in performing on stage, with showing the message and making it enjoyable even for people who might not be in the fandom. They're just simply underrated if you ask me :D
And yeah, the hiatus... I guess it's killing all of us isn't it? I thought they'll come back by the end of 2017 but they didn't and I'd never say that they don't need or deserve the break, no, that'd be a bit too selfish, but I'm definitely at a stage in my life where their music is needed and where Twenty One Pilots is neccesary for living. So yeah, I hope they come back soon with the new album, can't wait tbh...

I, too, think they are necessary for my survival and have been listening to every song from every album since they left us. It's cool to re discover and listen to some of their songs I had breezed by in the past. I could kick myself for not even knowing about Air Catcher till just a few months ago...dunno how that one escaped me but I'm glad I found it. Dealing with depression or any mental maladys can make a persons life a living hell and somehow their music hits me right where I need to be hit (metaphorically speaking) And you are spot on about their ability to perform. Beings there's just the 2 of them they have often said in interviews that Tyler writes music knowing that it will be performed live and that's where they shine. What a treat it is to chat with you! I relate to this song so much its not funny. I'd rather break myself even more then letting other people see me broken. Even if I want or need help I can't tell anyone because my mind forces me to remain silent and instead sob hideously. Then after that I just return to my miserable state or even worse. I get mad at myself for not being able to speak about it like its forbidden to speak of. Like in the song i'd rather sing (or scream) at the sky other then telling people my problems. I'd feel a lot better because, the sky can't judge you. The only reason I can say this here is because no one can really judge me or see me. No one can really judge me because I'm behind a screen I always portray myself as a happy go lucky person online to any random person. That one part of the song really sticks with me so much. It just makes me think and actually gives a little bit of hope. We're all broken, we're all full of fears, we're all dealing with demons yet nobody wants to admit it because if you do you'll be considered a broken person. Well, we're all broken so lets all just accept it, the sooner we break this huge societal ordeal of denial that we all need help, the sooner we can fix it.
"I find over the course of a human existence one thing consists of consistence and it's that we're all battling fear." This line too (obviously in a different song) because it lines up with the idea that we're all scared. It's hopeful to know that I'm not only not alone in this, but quite the opposite. This is why I love TOP, they really help me and give me hope. Love the band |-/

This song is such an important step towards developing Blurryface and the character. This is the first song I think where we can hear Blurryface singing (at least in the background), and it's not even on the Blurryface album.

There's a reason for everything Tyler does, theres a reason why he put Blurry's voice in during the rap. And I love that. It makes the song go from happy-go-lucky to a little more dark. It forces you to think as to why Tyler put Blurry in this song. Clearly, he wouldn't have if this song was truly happy. It just really makes you think again about the song and it makes you dig deeper in the lyrics that appeared to be happy.
