I like to think that the birds are every single one of us, looking back in the past. We tend to look back at what we have lost and at the mistakes we made, instead of looking forward, thus failing to notice the opportunities moving away from us.

We tell ourselves we won't think about it anymore, we'll keep going, but we always end up in the deep thought, thinking what better we could have done. So while a part of us wants to move on, there will always be this one part of us that is static, inert.

"There's nothing I won't understand." I believe this to be our hindsight and the previous line to be our desperate willingness and desire to change our past.
"I won't let go of your hand." yet again, the aforementioned desperate desire to stop the unstoppable wave of bad conscience.

It’s been hard for you, I know, and it makes me sad that you don’t see yourself in the way I see you. Sometimes they are things in life that cause us to loose ourselves, and the way you have is so unimaginable painful. I miss your smile, the way your eyes light up the whole room just by the sound of your laughter. I miss the way you accepted the way you look in the mirror without cursing yourself out about how ugly you look. I miss the way you didn’t think of yourself as a failure because everyone makes mistakes, we all have flaws and we all aren’t perfect. It’s painful to see that no one around you seems to see the pain trough your eyes, but, stranger, I do, I see how heavy your heart is and how comforting the sadness for you might be, how afraid your heart is of happiness because it disappears in the end, right? You don’t know how much impact you have in this world and it’s sad to see that your demons fight against you and want to take over you. Because you do make change, it’s something so simple and little that brightens up someone’s whole world, it can be a small smile from your lips, the way you look at things you’re passionate about, the way you make yourself eat even though it’s been hard for you lately, the way you zoom out and go in your own world, you brighten up my world by reading this, it means a lot to me that you’re here, existing, but I don’t want you to just exist, you deserve to feel alive. You deserve to get up in the morning and feel good about yourself. You deserve to feel something- to feel every damn second alive in this lifetime. It’s heartbreaking that you think you’re not capable of being loved, because you are, I love you trough all my words and I hope you let it happen in your heart. This song reminds me of my best friend who died in 2016. I absolutely loved her and she was like my sister from another mother, if you will. We helped each other during so many hard times. Once I was at home and she called me panicking, because the breaks on her dads car had been cut and they completely lost control of the car. The last words I heard from her was "I'll see you soon" before she and her dad died in the crash. I've never cried so hard in my life, and 5 years later I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that moment. I miss you a lot leila.

This song to me feels like separation, or separation anxiety. The two birds are best friends in an "old life."One bird wants to go and live life, letting go of past emotions, and moving on, making new memories, wanting the other to come along. However, the bird staying on the wire doesnt want to let go of trauma, past emotions, and memories. Its where they feel they belong, and where they feel the safest. My interpretation of this song is two people with similar traumas trying to go through life after. One feels motivated by the trauma to move forward, wants to live their life and heal. The other seems to cling to the past. They either can't let go, or they're in denial that it ever happened, so they can't move on. This was me and my boyfriend. We both have had scarily similar childhood experiences. Only difference is I moved on, didn't let it hold me back, I "flew away." When we met he was still holding onto that wire, saying he wants to fly but grasping just as tight. I was able to slowly loosen his grip, and watching him fly is the greatest feeling in the world to me, I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to fly with him.

This song never fails to make me cry since it reminds me of one of my aunts. Everytime I saw her she always had a smile for me, she even treated me like I was her grandchild alongside with my cousin. Last time I saw her was in my first communion, with almost 9 years old. Even though I had fun with some of my friends and cousins, I also spent time talking to my uncles and aunts, specially her. In like a year, almost two, she got really sick to the point that when we went to visit her to the hospital, my mom told me she was very ill. In like a week or so, the doctors told us that she got better and that they were gonna send her back to the hospital in my city. By the night, the doctors told my godmother (my aunt's daughter) that she suffered an infection in one of her lungs. When my mom told me that, I propose myself to pray for her and wish that she was well and that I could visit her. But by the morning, my nervous little self arrived to my parents bedroom and found my mother with tears in her eyes, and told me that my aunt was dead. I simply said "Oh" and turn around quickly and went to my room. I spent all morning crying. After that I felt a bit numb because everytime my family mentioned her, my cousin would be always crying, but not me and I didn't understand it until now. I miss her so much everyday and every time I hear this song it reminds me of when I was that bird trying to fly away and telling her all the amazing things that happened to me and now I'm stucked to that wire of memories of her. I really miss you auntie 🕊

I noticed that this song slowly progresses into a more depressive and intense tone, and all I can say is that I feel like it matches the recent events in my life perfectly.
The beginning of this song feels like when you first meet your best friend, and you spend so much time with them and laugh in the sun. You thought you were inseparable. The wire represents danger, somewhere you shouldn’t be because you’ll get shocked. I think its supposed to be depression, addiction, sickness, whatever you want. These two birds became close after being on the wire, one decides he was able to leave. But obviously the other one can’t move on, no matter how he tries. He’s tired, he’s comfortable there. And the other bird, despite wanting to leave, feels a necessity to stay with their friend despite them being ready to move on.

Its actually quite sad because now neither of the birds can move on from this dangerous spot. You also have to realize the more they’re both on the wire together, the more it weighs down. Maybe its more bittersweet than anything.

Btw it can be interpreted however you want, at its core its about one person who’s ready to move on with life and one person who’s too scared to leave the comfort of their status quo, even if its not good for them.

Its amazing how many different ways ppl can interpret it. I interpret it as my friends plan their lives and have goals and ambition. My uncle died at 72 after taking care me 13 years last 2 week ago he buy me a new shoes for school, he passed at holy week ago in sleep, i am very lucky and gratefull he just like a dad to me

This song reminds me of when you really want to to something that you wouldn't have done normally, but you're friend drags you down so you just can't go, your friend say stupid excuse so you can't go and free yourself and you are just obligated, forced to stay. You can't be free.
Or it remind me of the same thing but with parents, when you finally have a good new or you are in a good mood and they just, drag you down and told you thing Wich made you feel insecure, they give you the impression of " you need me to have good grades. You can't do this alone. You need to eat less. You need to to that. You need to do this" and they are just liars.

This reminds me of my cousin and I, we used to always talk and were practically inseparable. But over the years we both became more recluse. My cousin more so, I asked her how she was and she didn’t say anything. Its almost like she’s looking towards her mum (my aunt) to speak for her. She’s so quiet it’s ridiculous. We spoke about moving away and how I’d move in with her and her husband, I’d help with her kids. We made it all up and practically guaranteed it. But I don’t want that life anymore. We always played together, always spoke together. I just miss how it used to be. My aunt (cousins mum) is now a religious freak and read a bible at my birthday. She doesn’t celebrate Christmas, birthdays, Easter etc. Claiming they’re ‘pagan holidays’ and she’s anti-covid I believe. But I always looked up to her. She was ‘the cool aunt’. I just want things to go back. I went around last Saturday and my parents were worried she would preach to me. But thank god she didn’t. I just miss them.
