Before forming Two Tongues, Max Bemis, Chris Conley and Coby Linder had previously collaborated on a cover song of Bob Dylan's "The Man In Me" for the compilation album Paupers, Peasants, Princes & Kings: The Songs of Bob Dylan, released by Doghouse Records in 2006. After the successful collaboration, Bemis asked Conley about potentially doing an album together, to which Conley responded positively by saying "I would do it with no one else, nothing could be more epic!”
Thus, Two Tongues was born.

Two Tongues Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Late on a Saturday
In the grip
Of winter's chapped lips
One's blind
To all he has inside
One's sure
That he knows what life's got in store
And drunks have left the bar
He says we've just met
But I've seen you around
Can we share a car
Back to my place with movies made about outer space
And so it seems they're off to share their wasted dreams
The lyrics to Two Tongues's song Interlude are rich with imagery and metaphor, describing the chance meeting of two individuals in the dead of winter. The first lines describe the timing and context of the meeting - late on a Saturday, during the coldest part of the season when lips are chapped and dry. The two characters are distinct from one another: one is blind to what is inside of him, while the other is confident in his knowledge of life's path. The lyrics suggest that these two individuals have just met, but that the second character, the one who is confident in his knowledge of life, has seen the other around before. He asks if they can share a car and go back to his place to watch movies about outer space, and the two set off to "share their wasted dreams."
The lyrics are evocative and poetic, suggesting a sense of connection and possibility. The two characters are drawn together by chance, and there is a sense that they may find something meaningful or transformative in one another's company. The references to outer space and wasted dreams suggest a longing for something more, a desire to escape the confines of the everyday and find something greater.

And they meet
Two people come together
Late on a Saturday
It's during the late hours of a specific day of the week
In the grip
Amidst the effects of
Of winter's chapped lips
The harshness of cold weather
One's blind
One person is unaware of something important
To all he has inside
What he feels internally
One's sure
Another person is confident
That he knows what life's got in store
Certain about what's to come in the future
And when the stars
Upon a particular moment
And drunks have left the bar
After the crowd dissipates
He says we've just met
One person acknowledges first meeting
But I've seen you around
However, recognizes the other person from somewhere
Can we share a car
Asks if the other person wants to split a ride
Back to my place with movies made about outer space
To go to one person's home and watch science fiction films
And so it seems they're off to share their wasted dreams
The two individuals leave together, seemingly to indulge in their delusional aspirations
