Three more albums for Epic followed — Big Hopes , Steam, and This Is Ty Herndon: Greatest Hits — although none matched the success of his debut. He recorded a Christmas album in 2002 for the Riviera label, followed by his fifth studio album (2007's Right About Now) and a second Christmas compilation for the Titan Pyramid label.
Overall, Herndon has charted a total of seventeen singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. This figure includes three Number ones — "What Mattered Most" (1995) "Living in a Moment" (1996), and "It Must Be Love" (1998) — as well as four additional Top Ten hits.

I hear the gun explode.
I see the flash that brings me to my knees,
and I feel the warmth flowing out of me.
But in my mind, I'm climbing up the stairs,
and walking down the hall,
and Heather's standing there.
Our love will last forever like that 8X10,
Hanging on Heather's Wall, Hanging on Heather's Wall.
I see the money on the floor,
and his gun there by the door.
He was trying to rob the bank when I walked in.
Oh But this is not the way it's s'pose to end.
But in my mind, I'm climbing up the stairs,
and walking down the hall,
and Heather's standing there.
October 99, I see us in New England in the Fall.
Our love will last forever like that 8X10,
Hanging on Heather's Wall, Hanging on Heather's Wall.
Oh somewhere, someone says we've lost him now,
But I look up and I see Heather's smile.
So how can I be dying?
When I'm climbing up the stairs,
And walking down the hall,
And I see a bright light there.
October 99, that picture of New England in the fall.
Our love will last forever like that 8X10,
Hanging on Heather's Wall, Hanging on Heather's Wall.
The lyrics to Ty Herndon's song "Heather" tell a poignant and emotional story of a tragic event. The singer describes a moment that feels like slow motion, where they hear a gun explode and see the flash that brings them to their knees. They feel warmth flowing out of them, indicating that they have been shot. However, in their mind, they envision a different scene - climbing up the stairs, walking down the hall, and seeing Heather standing there. They reminisce about October 1999, picturing themselves in New England during autumn, with the assurance that their love will last forever like a photograph hanging on Heather's wall.
As the story unfolds, the singer notices money on the floor and a gun by the door, realizing that they walked into a bank robbery in progress. They express their disbelief that this is how it's supposed to end, highlighting the tragic nature of the situation. Despite their impending demise, they find solace in their imagined reunion with Heather, seeing her smile and feeling comforted by it. They question how they can be dying when they feel as though they are climbing up the stairs, walking down the hall, and seeing a bright light.
The lyrics of "Heather" encapsulate a sense of longing, loss, and the desire for eternal love. The song is a reflection on the fleeting nature of life and the power of memories and love to transcend even the most tragic circumstances.

I loved all of Ty's songs, but this one just grabs me every time I listen to it. It's a shame that it didn't go further than what it did in the charts. One of my favorites of his.

To think I knew Ty way before he became an awesome singer. Love Ty and his entire family.
