from the mentions of popular celebrities at the time (bruno mars, b.o.b etc) to grab the attention of not only the celebrities themselves, but also the media and their fanbases, to the casual mention of generally controversial topics (religion, sexuality, race), it became extremely recognisable.

is it the best song ever made? well, it doesn’t have to be, because at the time it was original and got people talking.

even the music video is weird. sickening, but it looks good and it leaves people with questions. you could’ve never predicted what would happen next throughout the video; that’s the beauty of it.

people are still discovering this now. people are still revisiting this now, out of nostalgia. out of wanting to feel the same way they did all those years ago. it’s effective.

When I first met my bestfriend who has since passed away, we were in the 6th grade and she was obsessed with OF. I had no idea who Tyler was until seeing her love for him. I miss her so god damn much. Im 24 now, she left us in 2017. My stomach turns each year I get older than she got the chance to be. Can I ask what the songs were? For Fiona one was ‘Fade into you’ by mazzy star. It rips my heart apart to close my eyes and imagine her ears hearing it, the comfort she felt in it.. we played it at her funeral. It’s a haunting world they leave behind when they go that’s for sure. Before Fiona passed there wasn’t 1 thing I thought of everyday consistently. Every single day since she’s passed I’ve had the conscious thought of “i haven’t gone a single day without hurting over you”. Seems unreal that life continues and we have to live 30+ years with only the memories of someone that was so important to our lives.
I hope you always are able to push through your dark days. I don’t know if it’s this way for everyone but it’s like after losing her to suicide, suicide has been on my mind everyday as well. I’m fine now, but for years I was barely getting by, mentally putting myself through hell with the visuals and thoughts
