Space and Time
Tyler Childers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never wanna leave this world
Without sayin' I love you
Without sayin' what you mean to me
You know you make me happy
Oh, when we
Want you to know you shape this heart of mine
And I never wanna leave this world, oh
Without saying I love you

Oh, and out in the woods
This picture is clear to me
I owe my life to even my enemies
The ones who have loved me
The ones who have tried
Their grips on my heart
And their grips on my mind
The stranger I pass
My mama, brothers
Friends and my father
They're God under cover
I'm telling you now
In case I must go
Want you to know

I never wanna leave this world
Without sayin' I love you
Without sayin' what you mean to me
You know you make me happy
Oh, when we
Want you to know you shape this heart of mine
And I never wanna leave this world, oh
Without saying I love you

I never wanna leave this world
Without sayin' I love you
Without sayin' what you mean to me
You know you make me happy
Oh, when we
Want you to know you shape this heart of mine

And I never wanna leave this world, oh
Without saying I love you

Overall Meaning

In "Space and Time," Tyler Childers expresses his deep love and appreciation for the people in his life, emphasizing the importance of expressing these feelings before it's too late. The lyrics suggest a sense of urgency and a desire to never leave this world without declaring his love for those who matter to him.

The opening lines convey a sentiment of not wanting to depart from this world without expressing love. Childers acknowledges that love is not just about words but also about the impact someone has on his life and how they bring him happiness. He recognizes that the people he shares his time and space with have shaped his heart, underscoring the transformative power of love and connection.

The second verse takes a reflective turn, as Childers expresses gratitude not only to those who have loved and supported him, but even to his enemies. He sees value in the lessons and the growth that come from encountering and overcoming challenges. He recognizes the various relationships and connections he has, from strangers he passes by to his closest family members, all of whom have left their mark on his heart and mind.

The chorus repeats the message of never wanting to leave this world without expressing love and gratitude. Childers again emphasizes the significance of the bonds formed in the shared space and time with others, highlighting how they shape his very being.

Overall, "Space and Time" is a heartfelt reflection on the importance of love and connection in one's life. It serves as a reminder to express love to those who matter most and to appreciate all the people who have played a role, whether positive or negative, in shaping one's life.

I lost my best friend 2 years ago on this day, Sept. 8th, and Tyler Childers was his favorite artist. How ironic that last year on Sept. 8th "Angel Band" from the album "Can I take my hounds to heaven" was released and now a year later on Sept. 8th he releases this album. Can't help to think that something otherworldly is going on here.. thank you for a great album, Tyler. RIP Jake
