Way Home
Tyler Hubbard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh)

I was running wide open
Firestones smokin' the day that I turned sixteen
I was hell bent and reckless
Never stopped for directions
Off track with no way back for me
Well, they say that life is a highway
And I've put some miles on mine
More than one time, I took the wrong two lane
Just lettin' my horses run wild

Yeah, I got lost (yeah, I got lost)
Until I got found (until I got found)
Oh, and now that it's well with my soul
I just ride in the seat next to Jesus
'Cause I know He knows the way home (way home)

(Ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh)

Yeah, it's kinda nice
I don't have to drive
To end up where I'm supposed to go
At the end of the day
It's better this way
With a little more rock in my roll (rock in my roll)

Well, they say that life is a highway
And I've put some miles on mine
More than one time, I took the wrong two lane
Just lettin' my horses run wild

Yeah, I got lost
Until I got found
Oh, and now that it's well with my soul
I just ride in the seat next to Jesus
'Cause I know He knows the way home
Yes, He does

(Oh yeah)

They say that life is a highway
One day, I'll run outta road
He'll meet me out front in the driveway
And we'll roam around streets of gold

Yeah, I got lost (yeah, I got lost)
Until I got found (Until I got found)
Oh, and now that it's well with my soul
I just ride in the seat next to Jesus
'Cause I know He knows the way home

I just ride in the seat next to Jesus
'Cause I know He knows the way home

Overall Meaning

Tyler Hubbard's song "Way Home" is a reflective and introspective track that delves into the journey of life and finding one's true path. The lyrics paint a picture of a young and reckless individual, symbolized by the line "I was running wide open, Firestones smokin' the day that I turned sixteen." The singer admits to being lost, never stopping for directions and going off track with no way back.

The song draws an analogy between life and a highway, emphasizing the idea that we all navigate through different paths and make choices along the way. The line "More than one time, I took the wrong two lane, Just lettin' my horses run wild" suggests a willingness to explore and take risks but also acknowledges the consequences of wandering off course.

However, the chorus offers a sense of redemption and finding solace. The singer declares that he got lost until he got found, indicating a newfound direction and purpose in life. The reference to riding in the seat next to Jesus symbolizes a spiritual connection and trust in a higher power to guide him on the right path. The repeated line "I know He knows the way home" reinforces this message of faith and reassurance.

Overall, "Way Home" encourages listeners to reflect on their own journeys, embrace the mistakes and detours along the way, and ultimately find comfort in the belief that there is a higher purpose guiding us back home.

“Way Home” is one of the first songs that I wrote after I officially decided to make my album. For me, it’s a reflection on where I’ve been, where I am now, and where I want to be. As hard as it is sometimes, I find peace in remembering who is really in the driver's seat of this life, and it’s not me. I hope you guys love this song and know me even better after hearing it.

"I just ride in the seat next to Jesus, cause I know, He knows the way home" Thank you for making the backdrop a church setting. Church is certainly the place where I learned about church. It was church that received me with open arms, when I made my way back-
