Prove Me Wrong
Tyler Joseph Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know,
Where I,
Am supposed to go so I
Might just take my pride and go

Some people,
They know,
Know everything but I know
That they don't know my heart

[Chorus]
'Cause I,
Oh yeah I believe in love,
And I hope I can show you what I mean,
And I don't believe love's for me, oh
So won't you come around and prove me wrong?
[End Chorus]

Won't walk the world,
Any different,
And my path won't change until you
Make a wall and make me fall and
Break me down

I don't know, no I don't know,
If I wrote this song in vain,
Vain, in vain, vain

[Chorus]

Prove me wrong, yeah,
You don't know me, and,
I don't know you,
Tell me, what should I do?

So won't you,
Come around and prove me wrong?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tyler Joseph's song Prove Me Wrong delve into uncertainty and doubt regarding one's direction in life and specifically, one's ability to experience love. The opening lines speak to a feeling of being lost and not knowing where to go. This sentiment is followed by the idea of leaving with one's pride intact, suggesting a sense of self-reliance despite the confusion.

The second verse discusses the notion that some people may believe they know everything, but they do not know the singer's heart. Here, Joseph explores the theme of understanding versus misinterpretation of one's innermost feelings, suggesting the singer's belief in love may be misunderstood or underestimated by others. The chorus, "Oh yeah I believe in love, and I hope I can show you what I mean, and I don't believe love's for me, oh so won't you come around and prove me wrong?" showcases the insecurity and self-doubt the singer feels regarding their ability to experience love.

The final verse of the song poetically illustrates the idea of stubbornness and resistance to change as a perceived barrier to experiencing love. The singer acknowledges their own uncertainty, asking whether they wrote this song in vain, suggesting that they are questioning their purpose or whether the message will be heard or understood by others. The final plea for someone to come around and prove them wrong reframes the earlier doubts as a plea for reassurance and evidence that love is possible for them.

Overall, Prove Me Wrong offers a vulnerable and honest look into the internal struggles that many individuals face when it comes to love and self-belief. The lyrics are both introspective and universal, lending to the song's appeal and relatability to many listeners.

I rewrote this song for my girlfriend here it is.

I didn't know
Where I was supposed to go
Some people, they know, know everything
But I know that only you know my heart

'Cause I, oh yeah, I believe in love
And I hope I can show you what I mean
Now I believe love's for me, oh
'Cause you came around and proved me wrong

Won't walk the world
Any different
And my path won't change until you
Make a wall and make me fall
And break me down

Oh, yeah
And I - oh, yeah I
Believe in love
And I hope I can show you what I mean
now I believe love's for me
'Cause you came around and proved me wrong

Proved me wrong, yeah

You know me
And I know you
Tell me, what should I do?

You came around and proved me wrong

+Daan de Kok : no, he was about 18-19, because No Phun Intended was released on 2007, making him that age. Unless he wrote and recorded that song on 2005, making him 16-17

Tyler at age 17 thought that there would be nobody to love him, but look at him now. Tyler has a wonderful wife and Josh his best friend to help home threw everything, not only does he have them, he has the clique. If he ever thought anything we would ALL prove him wrong.
