This Town
Tyler Steel Lyrics

Four lane highways are gettitng longer,
The closer I get to you.
Everytime I look in my rearview,
I see a picture of you.

There ain't no backroad in this little town I ain't been down a time or two.
A shot of whiskey running through my veins tonight.
The more I drink the more I think of you.
Your memories follow me wherever I go, wherever I go in this town.

Listen learn, crash and burn.
Lay it all on my chest.
Cause I've been down to every last bottle
And I've seen the pain.

There ain't no backroad in this little town I ain't been down a time or two.
A shot of whiskey running through my veins tonight.
The more I drink the more I think of you.
Your memories follow me wherever I go, wherever I go in this town

There ain't no backroad in this little town I ain't been down a time or two.
A shot of whiskey running through my veins tonight.
The more I drink the more I think of you.

Your memories follow me wherever I go, wherever I go in this town
In this town, woah, in this town.

Overall Meaning

Tyler Steel's song "This Town" captures the essence of longing and heartache in a small town. The first two lines of the song describe the singer's journey, with the four-lane highways getting longer as he gets closer to the person he misses. However, every time he looks back in his rearview, he sees a picture of this person. This suggests that the singer is not able to let go of the memories of that person and the time they spent together. As the story unfolds, we get a glimpse into the singer's life in this small town. He has been down every backroad and has drowned his sorrows in alcohol. However, despite his attempts to escape the memories, they continue to follow him everywhere he goes in the town.

The chorus brings out the yearning and pain that the singer feels, with the refrain "The more I drink, the more I think of you." He acknowledges that he has laid his heart bare to every last bottle, but the pain is still there. The line "Listen, learn, crash and burn" suggests a sense of recklessness or abandon, indicating that the singer may be willing to take risks to be with the person he misses. The closing lines of the chorus repeat the idea of memories following the singer, reinforcing the sense that he cannot escape them.

All in all, Tyler Steel's "This Town" depicts the pain of a person who cannot escape the memories of someone they miss in a small town. The lack of backroads coupled with the constant presence of memories presents a powerful image of emotional entrapment.

I love this song and I have had it on my playlist for a very long time. I heard it again today on my Spotify and it sounded different, can someone confirm if Tyler changed the music/beat of the song from the original album he had on Spotify 7ish years ago to what it sounds like now on this video and Spotify? Or am I just crazy?
