Girl
U.K. Players Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I got a little girl, she only lives down the street
And she's got a little something, it's gonna knock you off your feet.
Well I said I wanna buy some and she told me that I could,
Said first you better try some, 'cos it may not do you good.

Well I feel a lot better than I did before.
A whole lot better when I'm out on the floor.
Feel so good, I don't know when,
Look out girl, here it comes again.

Well Tomorrow's Girl, she ain't pre-programmed,
'Cause you took a liberation that she won't understand
And she ain't preconditioned, like some android slave.
Well Tomorrow's Girl, there's a sign for change

Well I feel a lot better than I did before.
A whole lot better when I'm out on the floor.
Feel so good, I don't know when,
Look out girl, here it comes again.

Well Tomorrow's Girl, she ain't no factory girl
And she don't wanna live in a nine to five world.
You're out there slaving on your factory floor,
Well Tomorrow's Girl, she wants a lot more.

Well I feel a lot better than I did before.
A whole lot better when I'm out on the floor.

Feel so good, I don't know when,
Look out girl, here it comes again.

Overall Meaning

The song "Girl" by UK Players is a catchy tune about a man's infatuation with a girl who lives down the street. He describes her as having a little something that will knock you off your feet, implying that she has a magnetic personality or an alluring quality about her. The lyrics suggest that the man is interested in buying something from her, but she advises him to try it first to see if it suits him. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the man's attraction to the girl - he wants to pursue a relationship with her, but she cautions him to proceed with caution.

The chorus of the song is simple but effective, with the repeated line "Well I feel a lot better than I did before" suggesting that the man's encounters with the girl have elevated his mood and made him feel more alive. He feels most alive when he's out on the dance floor, and the song captures the excitement and energy of a night out at the club.

The verse about "Tomorrow's Girl" introduces a different theme, touching on the idea that the girl down the street represents a departure from the conventional expectations of society. The song suggests that "Tomorrow's Girl" is someone who refuses to conform to societal norms and instead seeks a life outside of the typical 9-to-5 grind. The chorus repeats again, reinforcing the idea that this girl has a transformative effect on the singer's life.

Overall, "Girl" is a fun and upbeat song that captures the thrill of attraction and the excitement of breaking free from societal expectations.

What a sound, fantastic track, makes me remember the good old Weekend nights with a great crowd to dance to this. UK Players were so underrated, but for me one of the best BritFunk bands in the 80's. Their Sound is a mix of jazz/new wave/soul/funk. What a sound!
