Ugly Kid Joe Lyrics

God, I'm hoping that you'll understand
God, I'm trying to make amends now
God, I'm asking for your guiding hand
Everybody's got the wrong opinion
Everybody says what's on their mind
Everybody's got the wrong tradition
God, I'm reading in your holy books now
God, I'm singing and I'm not afraid
God, I'm looking for the only way out now
God, I'm hoping that I can be saved
Everybody's got the wrong religion
You won't say what's on your mind
Some won't hear why others listen
Everybody pray to the man
Why don't you ever answer questions
Now my faith is slipping away
I'm looking in a different direction
Believing is the only way
Everybody's got their own tradition
(Everybody's got the wrong religion)
Everybody's got their own salvation
(Everybody's got the wrong submission)
Everybody's got their own religion
(Everybody's got the wrong tradition)
Everybody pray to the man
The lyrics to Ugly Kid Joe's song God are a plea to a higher power for guidance and salvation. The first verse begins with the singer asking God to push them in the right direction, hoping that God understands their situation and is willing to help them make amends. The second verse contrasts the singer's faith with those around them, stating that everyone has the wrong opinion, tradition, and religion. The singer makes it clear that they are reading holy books and singing without fear, hoping that they can find their way out and be saved.
The chorus repeats the idea that everyone has the wrong religion and tradition but still prays to a man. The singer questions why God doesn't answer questions and expresses that their faith is slipping away. The song ends with the repetition of the idea that everyone has their own tradition, salvation, and religion, but everyone still prays to the man.
The song can be interpreted in several ways. It can be viewed as a criticism of organized religion, which the singer sees as flawed and unable to provide the answers they are seeking. It can also be seen as an exploration of personal faith and the search for meaning and purpose in life. Ultimately, the song suggests that salvation and guidance can only come from within, and that blind adherence to tradition and authority is not the answer.
