Good actors, a good screenplay. However, not one minute was filmed in the Australian Outback. "Drogheda" was somewhere in California, Queensland on Hawaii, only a few actors were Australian. A bit more local colour would have been nice.

I remember hearing this on the radio in my grandma's car a few years after the miniseries was new.
We didn't have a VCR yet and I hadn't recorded the theme on audiotape either so hearing it on the radio was not only a pleasant surprise but also a real delight because it was like suddenly encountering an old friend I hadn't heard from in a few years.
One of the most enchanting, bewitching melodies of all time.

The movie was good, but not one second was filmed in outback Australia. At least some actors were Australian. Richard Chamberlain alias Pater Ralph is no Catholic. This sounds like a failure, but the movie became famous.

My late wife loved the theme song from the Thorn Birds by Henry Mancini and also the them song from the Molly Maguires, it was played during her viewing on 3/13/2010 in Los Angeles where she’s entombed at the San Fernando Mission Cemetary 500 feet from Richie Valenz’s grave. My late wife loved Irish music and she was from the Philippines, we were married 31years when she passed away.

Loved this song and movie back in 1983. Used to ride my big horse "Billy" in the open desert west of Utah Lake and whistle this song to him as we cantered through the fine-smelling sage brush. Miss those days. 38-years passed now, that good old horse long since passed away after breaking a leg on ice. But just hearing this instrumental music again brings a wistful remembrance of times past.

From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out-carol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain ...Or so says the legend.

콜린 맥콜로우 작품을 미니시리즈로 방영했었던...
책을 참 좋아했었고 시드니 오페라홀을 무척 가고 싶던 젊은날의 열망이 떠오르네요.
여전히 생각나는 젊은 여주인공 메기 남주인공은 랄프였던가...메기의 유년부터 마음깊이
뿌리내렸던 랄프...인형을 분신처럼 소중히 여기던 어린메기...
페이지에 빨려 들듯 읽던 20대가 생각나네요...책 출간이후 몇년이 흘러 미니시리즈로 방영되었고...시간은 공간을 예속한다더니 잊고 지낸 시리즈에 흘렀던 음악도 다시 들으니 서사처럼 기억들이 맴도네요
몇년전 콜린 맥컬로우 작가도
작고했다는 뉴스도 접했었는데
한세대가 그렇게 저물어가는군요.

I remembered seeing the Thornbirds on ABC in early 1983, my late wife of 31 years who was from the Philippines asked me many questions which I answered. The music was great, so was the acting as well.

When I was younger, My Mother, Sister and I would watch this show faithfully. I didn't really know who Henry Mancini was but I grew up listening to his Music. Dragnet, The Pink Panther,and of course Nadia's Theme from The Young & The Restless.

+laminage I saw Henry Mancini in concert in 1989 just five years before he died from cancer at the age of 70. He left this world much too soon and still could have created much more lovely music. He will always be remembered as a Master in what he did in the Music Industry and a Musical Legend. So many favorites by him but "Moon River" is probably my most beloved favorite.

Hmm. excuse me for questioning your maths, but I remember watching the series when it was first shown in the UK in 1984 - I was then in my mid-twenties and I've just turned 60. Therefore you, Sir, can't be more than about 50 and most definitely NOT an old man!
