Skin
Unheilig Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've wished it a thousand times
I've been all that you want
I've seen things through your eyes
Distinguished right from wrong

You caress me
Tell me that you love me like a storm
Words are tender
But they'll never substitute a heart gone wrong

Let me crawl inside your skin
I promise you won't feel a thing
Let me crawl inside your skin
I'll love you from within
I'll be your courage, flesh and blood

You've taken my body and soul
I give you what you need
If one of us has to go
I hope it can be me

A pointed promise
Fills my head with shades of winter days
The seeds of doubt
Will find me out
And tip their hat to something strange

Let me crawl inside your skin...

Skin
I'll Be your courage, flesh and blood

Let me crawl inside your skin...

Let me crawl inside your skin
I promise you won't feel a thing
Let me crawl inside your skin
I'll love you from within

I'll Be your courage, flesh and blood

Overall Meaning

The song "Skin" by Unheilig is a powerful and somewhat eerie proclamation of love that speaks of an intense desire to be completely united with another person. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation and longing, with the singer expressing a willingness to do whatever it takes to be close to the person they love. At the same time, there is a hint of darkness and danger within the song, suggesting that this kind of all-consuming love can be dangerous.

The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, with the singer stating that they have wished to be with the person they love countless times. They go on to say that they have been everything the other person wants or needs, and that they have even seen things through the other person's eyes, providing a sense of intense closeness and intimacy. However, despite this level of devotion, the singer is aware that something is not quite right with their love, and that their heart may be broken or damaged in some way.

The chorus of the song is where the imagery of skin comes in, with the singer pleading to "crawl inside" the other person's skin. This is a metaphor for a complete merging of two souls, with the singer promising to be their partner's "courage, flesh and blood." There is a sense of sacrifice and surrender here, with the singer willing to give up everything they are in order to be closer to the one they love. Despite the intensity of the lyrics, the music is hauntingly beautiful, with a soaring chorus that captures the euphoria of love.

Overall, "Skin" by Unheilig is a powerful and deeply emotional song about the extremes of love, and the lengths that some people will go to be close to those they love.

So weit, so gut. ;o)
