In the latest versions of UMA there is a small change, but other than that the process remains the same: At 1:10 you need to use the `UMA_GLIB` prefab rather than the older `UMA_DCS` prefab.

Oh that's interesting. I happen to be working on a Zombie game as my latest learning exercise (DevLog videos are in the First Person Shooter playlist). I have a bunch of UMA Zombies for that game. Zombies and Dismemberment go together nicely. I've added it to my list thank you for the suggestion.

Sorry if this is a silly question but after dragging UMA_GLIB and UMADynamicCharacterAvatar to the hierarchy and pressing play, there are no animations, the avatar is just T-posing, I tried changing the Default Animation Controller to one of the UMA options, but neither seemed to work. idk if this is just me but my version of UMA is missing quite a lot of features. To name a few:

1. Very few options for the wardrobe
2. Random character generator isn't working properly (Only creates the same generic naked male model)

Where some of the features removed from the free version in later updates?

When I save characters as a prefab the avatar seems to look "empty", so I suppose It's getting me a error when I want to use the "avatar defenition" on a animation (Copy from other Avatar) It doesn't work, does anyone know how to solve?

@Wolfmoss Good to know. Thanks for letting us know. If we hit that problem we know where to look. For recipes not being found I have found that some of the relative directories can be temperamental so I usually use an absolute directory path.
I agree that UMA is a gem of an asset, there are plenty of $100+ assets with less truly valuable use in them than UMA.

@Wizards Code It's all good, turns out I was trying to access the character's DNA in code before it had been loaded properly (seems to be taking a couple extra frames in 2019.4 & 2.10 than it was previously).
I'm still having issues of some recipes not being found, but I'll hunt down the problem soon enough I hope.
All in all, UMA is indeed an amazing asset! :)

All I can find related to uma clothing is rpg clothes for medieval times, can't find any decent modern ones. Also any where I can get more hair style options and can it be used to create children characters?

For kids, sure, they are just small people with bigger heads and hands. Females need some more drastic differences and therefore there is a female child race included with UMA. O3N has some specific child models which may give better results.

I can't really help from a description of a problem that essentials says "it doesn't work", my answer would be don't do whatever you did to break it - which isn't very helpful 🙂
The video shows you how to make it work, there have been a couple of UMA updates since this video was recorded but I don't think there are any breaking changes (other than the one noted in the pinned message). I suggest you start a new scene and follow along with the video again. Don't do anything different until you truly understand what you are doing. Yes, as long as you don't change the skeleton. However, UMA doesn't bring many animations with it. Just a handful of placeholder animations to get you started.

Yes, but to do something as extreme as create zombies would require some skill as a modeller. You can buy additional races from the Unity asset store, including zombies, It is also possible to adapt standard models to work in UMA, but again you need to know what you are doing.

Out of the box you are changing, height, muscle, arm length and much more, but not major differences like rotting limbs.

@Red I don't have a video on it I'm afraid. How to do it depends on the controller you are using. Two things to check 1) you have set the animation controller in the UMA DCS component NOT in the Animation Controller as you would do normally (check you have the animation controller you expect at runtime). 2) Some controllers need the skeleton to be created before they start, UMA normally creates the skeleton quite late. However, you can bake the skeleton at design time. It's in the UMA menu but I don't recall the exact command (Bake Bones seems to ring a bell).

I can't comment on how optimized it would be. However, the final models are using standard Unity components which are optimized. I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to use it on mobile. However, you would obviously be more limited on how many characters you have on screen at any one time.
