In 1990 Usher joined an R&B local quintet called the NuBeginnings, which was organized by local music svengali, Darryl Wheeler and then he decided to pursue a career in music. Aside from recording, Usher has ventured into business. He has established his own record label, US Records, and is a part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise. He has also dabbled in acting, with a recurring role on the teen sitcom Moesha, and roles in the films The Faculty (1998, with Josh Harnett) She's All That (1999, with Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Texas Rangers (2001, with Ashton Kutcher).

Pretned I'm someone else
I never felt the same
Well this time
Breath I'm breathing up the air
Its burning up my lungs
Its burning through my hari
And I never felt
Stick a finger though the sky
Imi blowing up the sun
The earth is going to die
I might die too
And all the things I love
And all the things I need
I never wuite received
And its still
Hey kids what are you rocking for
I am staning in the rain
I'm laughing at myself today
And I'm breaking from the strain
I'm laughing at myself today
An di never neede more
Than all of your bidies
Don't you know I never deeded more than all of your love
Its only been a game
Palpiatation of the heart
I never watned more
So maybe we could play
Its only been a game
The bleeding of the hear
You let your missiles fire
And we all start to run
The lyrics to Usher's song Kids suggest a nihilistic viewpoint, as he talks about feeling isolated and disconnected from the world around him. He speaks about pretending to be someone else, and feeling like he never received the things he needed or wanted in life. The chorus, "Hey kids what are you rocking for," could be interpreted as a call to action or a plea for purpose, as Usher questions the meaning of existence and the value of everything around him.
The second verse further emphasizes these themes, with Usher describing himself laughing in the rain and breaking from the strain. He suggests that he never needed more than other people's love, and talks about the palpiatation of the heart and the bleeding of the hear. Then, in the final line, he introduces a new element: missiles firing and everyone running. This sudden burst of action suggests that the song is not just about existential crisis but also about real-world struggles and dangers.
In all, Kids is a complex and thought-provoking song that tackles deep philosophical themes while also touching on more concrete issues. The lyrics suggest a certain ambivalence towards life and the world around us, as Usher oscillates between despair and hope, between resignation and the desire for change. The song is a testament to Usher's versatility as an artist, as he continues to experiment with new sounds and styles.
