Hey There
Uzumaki Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I didn't see you sit around, oh no.
Maybe we can,
Take a flight and,
Disappear tomorrow.
I'm dreaming,
Daydreaming I know.
Well, hey there.
Did you consider what I said back then.
Stagnant water,
Tastes so awful,
I just can't stand it.
I'm dreaming,
Daydreaming I know.
In the first verse of "Hey There" by Uzumaki, the singer acknowledges the unexpected presence of someone. The line "Hey there, I didn't see you sit around, oh no" suggests that the singer has just become aware of the other person's presence. The use of "sit around" could indicate that the singer feels like the other person has been subtly observing or existing in their environment without being noticed. The next line, "Maybe we can, take a flight and, disappear tomorrow," introduces the idea of escaping together. The singer suggests the possibility of leaving their current situation behind and embarking on an adventure, symbolized by taking a metaphorical flight and disappearing. This could represent a desire for freedom, a longing for a new and different experience, or a need to escape from something in their lives.
In the chorus, the phrase "I'm dreaming, daydreaming I know" emphasizes that the singer's thoughts are not grounded in reality. It acknowledges that the idea of disappearing and starting anew may be nothing more than a daydream—a figment of their imagination. This suggests that the singer may be aware that their desires or fantasies are not realistically attainable, but they still find solace in daydreaming about them.
In the second verse, the singer directly addresses the other person, saying "Well, hey there." It seems that the singer is continuing a conversation that might have taken place before. The line "Did you consider what I said back then" implies that the singer had previously shared their thoughts or advice with the other person. It suggests that the singer may have offered some insight or perspective that they now want to revisit or inquire about. The following line, "Stagnant water, tastes so awful, I just can't stand it," introduces the metaphor of stagnant water. This metaphor suggests that the singer finds stagnancy and complacency unpleasant and unbearable. It could imply that the singer desires change, growth, or progress, and views inaction or remaining stagnant as negative.
The chorus is repeated, reinforcing the previous interpretation that the singer's desires and fantasies are only existing in their dreams and daydreams. It highlights the singer's awareness that their ambitions or wishes may not align with reality, but they continue to indulge in these daydreams nonetheless. The structure of the song, with the verses and choruses, creates a narrative progression and repetition, allowing the listener to understand the singer's thoughts and emotions regarding escapism, the longing for change, and the tension between dreams and reality.
Overall, "Hey There" by Uzumaki explores themes of escapism, desire for change, and the disparity between dreams and reality. The lyrics illustrate the singer's awareness of the limitations of their dreams, suggesting a nuanced understanding of their own desires. However, they still find comfort in daydreaming and contemplating possibilities, even if they may not be achievable. The song encourages listeners to reflect on their own dreams and aspirations, recognizing the tension between the longing for change and the practicality of achieving those dreams.
