Spread the word! If when you are asked by a cheerful VA employee "HI, how are you?" Always say "I'm still alive". If you politely respond I'm fine, how are you, the VA employee will write on a form "Veteran reports he is fine now". These people are NOT your friends.
If we all start using those exact words "I'm still alive", as dim witted as they are they'll get it we're wise to their tricks. Tell all of your brothers and sisters it's "I'm still alive".

This happened to me while I was in. I had an MRI reveal I have thinning bone marrow in my left ear canal and slight hearing loss. Instead of asking the hazards of my MOS- loud ass helicopters and fuel pumps- he tricks me into answering the question of whether I drive with my windows down occasionally. At the time I was still stupid enough to believe him, but now I realized how scummy these people are to just blow off something so serious just to not investigate the real cause. Now I'm barely beginning my benefits process and my left ear drum and canal flare up occasionally.

@@williambrown3750 thanks man. You too. Thanks for the advice too. I have a problem with telling the truth too much, and now it’s caught up to me lol I’ll be relaying this to my friends who are still in. I’m sure a lot of them are “fine” too don’t realize how bad it’ll be if they say it out loud.

Many have followed this strategy, lots of VA employees lie, and say “the veteran said they were doing well.” The VA mind-screw is constantly at work, meaning everything depends on WHO you come into contact with as some are decent but far too many are biased hacks. The VSR’s and RVSR’s have too much latitude which invites bias and prejudice! They have seized what little power they act like the dollars they are approving are their own.

The claim denials should be few and far between, the exception in fact. And, the approvals should be the vast majority. Nothing is more infuriating than a POS rater or examiner who never served a day in the military denying any veteran something they earned from being injured at some point during their service.

I am 63 and just 2.5 years ago enrolled at the VA. I have constant ringing in the ears and my blood pressure is off the charts. So I am monitoring everyday. with the VA. I have never submitted a claim but considering it . There was an insident that I have never talked about at my 1st duty station. MST, I have never told anybody about it. Do you have any info on a situation like this?

You need to get service connected for the condition caused by the MST, such as PTSD. You need a diagnosis for PTSD, personal statement, buddy letter if possible describing your PTSD symptoms

My son got out of the Marines in 2019, was working with a VSO prior to getting out , they filed his paperwork with a bunch of claims, was given an appointment in Texas(HOR) but he was living in California when he got out. Unable to make appointment and was denied on all claims. What does he need to do now? He hasn't done anything since then, He's currently working on getting a new diagnosis on his shoulders.

He has to file an appeal:
1) Congress passes a law
2) Veteran files a claim
3) VA denies claim forcing you, dear vet, to file an appeal
4) Wait years for a hearing (going on 3 years now)
5) Your guess is as good as mine.

Hey man geat info as always, do you have any tips or focused information for current active duty service but in the plans of ETS? In a year I approach my window to submit my claim (6months prior ETS date) and I developed quite a few issues during my time in service that I've documented

Yes, you’re on fire for finding this information this early. You have infinite flexibility being in service, I would really recommend grabbing access to the Master package at vaclaims-academy.com so you can have access to the personal statements you’ll need and know how to put together a killer BDD claim so you do it right the first time. Document and report any issues when out processing. My case is a little different because I was medically discharged but I didn’t report anything when out processing (because I was of the impression that I would be permitted to re-enter service once I recovered from my injury) in 2008 and it has come back to haunt me now. Once I realized they weren’t going to let me back on active duty I sunk into depression and didn’t even try to file for any benefits until this year. Now being so far removed from my time in service I’m having trouble getting the documentation that I need to get things service connected. I hated going to sick call back then and I really bought into the don’t be a “sick call ranger” mentality, now I see the dudes that reported everything basically breezing through this process and the guys that never reported anything having to fight tooth and nail for 10-20%. Do yourself a favor and report stuff, just my .02¢

What about if the VA denied me for a back pain claim even though it occurred while in service from 20 years ago. (documented in medical records)The VA response was they did not see any chronic back pain complaints in the last 20 years. What do I do? any help appreciated (yes, I still have back pain)

Hi Joi Last, did you also submit a bulletproof personal statement? If not, that’s a problem. Additionally it wouldn’t hurt to get a recent doctors visit for the sole purpose of providing evidence you back pain is still present. Reattack.

I have been diagnosed and been treated for Bilateral plantar fasciitis. I complaint while in the guard but not in active duty. I got denied for plantar fasciitis, can a lay statement help me. Although I did not go to sick call while in active duty, I did complaint with my battle buddies.

I’d need to know the specifics to give you a specific answer to that, but generally, read the reason for why there say they denied you. Then from there you can choose to either solve that reason and re-submit, or if it’s a brick wall, attack from a different angle I.e. getting creative with secondary claims

If you feel the evidence you turned in was compelling based on 38CFR, then file for a HLR (higher level review). If that gets denied, time for a pivot in strategy to find an opening

@@vaclaimsacademy well I reread the document and it they did service connect it, but it is evident they didn’t read any of the documents I submitted bc they denied it based off “not often enough” for migraines with my DBQ and personal statement both listed way more than what’s needed for 50. It says I can’t file for higher level, but can do supplemental.

@@graceinthewildhomestead Ah, in that case I would indeed file a supplemental and include a migraine log on a word document going back 2 months to the best of your ability, showing several debilitating attacks per month.

Take a second glance at your statement to make sure it’s not WORDY and that it clearly and succinctly conveys relevant information based on the feedback you’ve gotten
