@Luiz Alex Phoenix Surprisingly, Mom's car suffered only minor damage. A few paint scuffs on the hood and left fender; some slight damage to the grille, if I remember.
Keep in mind, that this was a '65 Chrysler Newport. That car was a tank. Dad repainted it the following summer, which was 1970. I myself hand-sanded over two-thirds of that car. Wet-sanded, the old-fashioned way.
To do that without sanding your fingers to the bone, you have to cover your fingertips and outer palm with masking tape - which you need to change or replace every hour or so. It only took us three days.

I like how the girl at 0:15 has no fear when a car is going faster and faster out of control.
I worked at a service station once which has a car wash. The number of times I had to reset the car wash was unbelievable. Most of the time it was because people are hopeless at steering / driving a vehicle in a straight line. If the vehicle isn't reasonably straight it will just quit to avoid potential damage . For those who don't know, car washes measure your vehicle so they know how close to put the brushes. If you move the car in the cycle you can break the car wash and your vehicle.
I remember a taxi driver coming in and trying to buy a car wash. I said, "You can't take the taxi through this car wash (due to the protruding bits -- hail light, spot lights, antennas. He said he's not. "Yeah, sure buddy"... 5 minutes later I look at the cctv at there his taxi is, in the car wash. It's like how utes / pickups or vehicles with roof roof racks / ladders on top can't go through. The wash brushes will get jammed int he ladder / tray and lift your vehicle up before breaking the car wash. $100,000 later.

Had a dear family friend who was in his mid 80's and drove every single day. On a routine visit to the post office one day that he had done thousands of times before - he got the brake and accelerator pedal confused. He drove at very high speeds across the parking lot, drove through several rows of thick bushes then hit a solid brick wall head on at 40+ miles per hour. The poor man was horrendously injured and lingered in a hospital bed for over a week before the injuries took his life. It's very sad that such tragedys can happen so quickly and end in catastrophe without warning

I worked at a very busy car wash. Actually it was during the “gas crisis” in late ‘73-‘74. I was directing an older man onto the tracks on the wash. His window was down. He made it onto the track OK but was very hard of hearing. I was yelling at him to put his window up! Then the first spray blasted the drivers side. It stunned him and he lost it. He stomped on the gas and ripped right through the wash! I couldn’t believe it! He narrowly missed the employee who wiped off the cars at the finish. He did a lot of damage. Had to close down the wash the rest of day which was a major PIA because we were so busy. I remember the half mile long lines for gas. At the end of the day we had a small box full of gas caps that we forgot to put back on. Believe it or not but it was really crazy. I actually liked it but, man those lines! IIRC gas prices were right around.35 a gallon. Running Sunoco 260 octane gas for a penny or two more per gallon? Yes please! That Sunoco 260 was something else though. We’d fill up my buddy’s Challenger 340 with it and the difference was incredible. Good ole days for sure.

He’s currently teaching me everyday and my instructor even mentioned how much my driving has improved since I began driving with my dad in between weekly lessons. How does this even happen? I almost think they were going to be completely redoing the carwash and knew someone willing to wreck a car because that was too perfect. They stayed in the lane the entire time and even managed a turn perfectly.
