Rêverie
V Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Places that never hide the truth
In my places you never hide the truth
Don't ask me how but it drags me down
It seems like a failure
It's all about being safe and sound
Without any failure
Promise you'll keep me warm
Oh no, oh no
Me standing against four walls
Just four walls, just four walls
And you will find a piece of mine
My sweet romance is just
From me to you
And no one else but you
Means nothing but a mornin' glitch
My reverie
Faces that never blow your mind
All of my faces, they never blow your mind
Don't leave me now until the dawn
Becomes a failure
Where all I drowned by a million sounds
My personal failure
Promise you'll keep me warm
Oh no, oh no
Me standing against four walls
Just four walls, just four walls
My glow seems like almost gone
So strong, so strong
And you will find a piece of mine
My sweet romance is just
From me to you
And no one else but you
Is just from me to you
And no one else but you
From me to you
And no one else but you

Means nothing but a mornin' glitch
My reverie

Overall Meaning

In "Reverie," V explores themes of truth, safety, and personal connection. The lyrics suggest that V's places are ones where truth is always revealed, contrasting with other spaces where truth is hidden. Despite this, V feels dragged down and describes the situation as a failure. The desire to feel safe and sound without any failures is emphasized.

V seeks comfort and warmth, promising that they will keep V warm. There is a sense of isolation, as V stands against four walls, emphasizing the confinement and perhaps loneliness. V longs for someone to understand and connect with, someone who will find a piece of V's mind. This connection is described as a sweet romance, something intimate and special shared only between V and this person. V mentions that it means nothing but a morning glitch, implying that the connection and the moments shared are fleeting.

The song also touches upon the idea of multiple faces. V mentions faces that never blow your mind, suggesting that these various personas or appearances do not have a significant impact on the other person. There is a plea not to leave until the dawn, indicating the fear of being alone or abandoned. V feels drowned by a multitude of sounds, possibly referring to the overwhelming nature of the world and the impact it has on V's personal sense of self.

I’m sad to say
This will be my final story
An old friend once told me something that gave me great comfort
Something he had read
Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin
Never died
They simply became music
So I hope you will enjoy this last piece
Very much.

Debussy. Rêverie. Such a beautiful piece that captures the title, "a daydream", so well. There is something so soothing about the flowing melodic line, the way it repeats in almost a trance-like manner, that can't help but make you feel like you're in a dream. Did you know that Debussy later disliked this piece? It's fascinating how often this happens to works that become popular, can you think of another case where this happened? A certain Rachmaninoff piece comes to mind, and perhaps a Chopin too. I hope you enjoy this last week of waiting ♥
