Honeybabysweetiedoll
Van Halen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Honeybabysweetiedoll you're the one that I want or I don't want one at all
Honeybaby my heart's a flame, I'm all up and you're to blame
Honeybabysweetiegirl let me count the ways you rock my world
Stone soul sistah, soccer mom, muchacha-miga, cherry bomb

Baby, lover, angel faces
Satin doll, you straight up aces
I'm a bad little cowboy, send me to your room
Let's get started, let's not stop soon
I'm more like the ocean when the moon is full
I'm a face grenade with the sex pin pulled

Baby, lover, angel faces
Satin doll, you straight up aces

Honeybaby Hampton's
Kinda lost, sorta rich
I dig both don't care which

You're gonna make me crash

You red hot Florida trailer trash
Now that's a switch

Overall Meaning

The song "Honeybabysweetiedoll" by Van Halen is a classic rock tune that carries the band's signature sound. It begins with David Lee Roth's distinctive vocal style, delivering the first lines, "Honeybabysweetiedoll you're the one that I want or I don't want one at all." The opening lines establish what the song is all about, expressing desire for a particular person. The lyrics go on to describe a love interest who is the cause of the singer's burning heart; the words "Honeybaby my heart's a flame, I'm all up and you're to blame" are an apt metaphor for the heat of desire.

The chorus, "Honeybabysweetiegirl let me count the ways you rock my world, Stone soul sistah, soccer mom, muchacha-miga, cherry bomb," celebrates the diversity and beauty of women. The lines acknowledge different types of women, including soccer moms, cherry bombs, and muchacha-migas, creating a sense that there is something special about each of them. Later lyrics describe the singer's desire and need for the love interest. He compares himself to a face grenade with the sex pin pulled, ready to explode with passion. The singer also declares that he is a bad little cowboy and wants to be sent to the love interest's room, intending to continue their intimate encounter without stopping. The song ends with a playful poke at the love interest, calling her "red hot Florida trailer trash."

That tone. Al’s snare tone is sick. Ed and his guitar tone... Jesus. Listen to this on head phones

Ya Eddie got killer guitar tone on this album. Jst ravenous sounds all over this album compared to ones with Sammy and Cherone.

The Fonz

Killer album. Pity they didn’t promote it.

James Ragsdale

Pity they didn't record it properly. Pity they didn't work with real producer. Pity they didn't work with the Classic Van Halen lineup with Michael Anthony. Pity they didn't put any money into making real videos for the songs. It's a pity that Edward Van Halen was insane.

Rubin4749

Reminds me of "Walking Into Clarksdale"

@Wob I surprised u, but u also surprised me. Your also right, that first tune on No Holds BBQ, which i didn't even know existed till now, IS the same Gates of Babylon. And following tune in the BBQ is also in this album as well. Seems they took atleast 2, haven't watched the rest of the 1hr vid, could b more, and reproduced it in the last VH album.
