Known as "Van the Man" by his fans, Morrison first rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their 1964 hit "Gloria". A few years later, Morrison left the band for a successful solo career, starting with the album Astral Weeks.
Morrison has pursued an idiosyncratic musical path. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles "Brown Eyed Girl", "Moondance", "Domino", and "Wild Night". An equal part of his catalogue consists of lengthy, loosely connected, spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz, and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as his classic album Astral Weeks and lesser known works such as Veedon Fleece and Common One. The two strains together are sometimes referred to as "Celtic Soul," and Morrison rejects the characterization of his genre of music as Rock, citing Elvis Presley as a non-influence.
He continues to perform regularly and achieved his highest U.S. chart position (number ten on the Billboard 200) with his 2008 album, Keep It Simple.

(Cross the floor) ha-ha
Hey, girl!
When ya swish and sway
In your yellow dress
'Cross the crowded room
Hey, girl!
Freckles on your arms
Freckles on your face
Can't we find a place?
In a crowded room, we go
Boom, chicka-boom, chicka-boom
(Chicka-boom, chicka-boom)
Boom (chicka-boom, chicka-boom-boom)
Boom, chicka-boom, chicka-boom
(Chicka-chicka-chicka-boom)
A-hey, girl!
I'm goin' away
But I'm comin' back
With a ginger cat
What'd ya think a-that?
Hey, girl!
I'm goin' away
But I'm comin' back
By the railroad track
Where the trains go by
And we sang and cry in gloom
Boom, chicka-boom
(Chicka-boom, chicka-boom)
Hey, girl!
(Chicka-boom, chick-a boom-boom)
When ya swish and sway

"Chick-A-Boom" is a song by Van Morrison that is known for its catchy beat and hook. The song is an ode to a girl dancing in a yellow dress across a crowded room. It starts with a request to shut the door and cross the floor, setting the tone for a night of dancing and fun. The lyrics talk about the girl's freckles, and the singer's desire to find a place with her in the crowded room. The chorus, "Boom, chicka-boom," is repeated throughout the song, adding to the upbeat and playful vibe.
In the second verse, the singer mentions that he is going away but promises to come back with a ginger cat. The ginger cat could be a metaphor for something that he will bring back to the girl, representing his intentions to win her over. The third verse talks about the railroad track and mentions that they will sing and cry in gloom. The sudden switch to sadness could be due to the singer's impending departure or something else entirely.
Overall, "Chick-A-Boom" is an upbeat song about enjoying life and seizing the moment. The lyrics are simple and full of energy, making it a popular dance song.
