2. Vance is a singer, songwriter and performer whose talent has amazed audiences since the 1980s. In 1986 The Monkees recorded and made a million seller of Vance’s song, "That was Then, This Is Now" as the theme for their comeback tour.

Vance has a sound of his own and a versatility that goes beyond the songs of one style of music, illustrating his influence by songwriters and artists spanning decades. Known for his keen lyrical sense and perfectly arranged harmonies, his focus has been on songwriting and live performance for most of his career.

He released his first solo CD in 2007, a holiday CD in 2008 and a series of singles in 2009 – 2010 that are now available as a collection. He has also written songs for other artists and some were used in movies, including one for a 1991 John Travolta movie.

Since late 2001 Vance has thriled crowds with his dynamic stage performance as guitarist and Music Director for Peter Noone. He also works with music as therapy for seniors with various levels of memory challenges in nursing homes and community programs. Prior to his work with Peter Noone Vance performed as a solo artist and with bands at the top clubs in New York City including the Hard Rock Café, Peppermint Lounge, China Club and Irving Plaza.

His million seller Monkees hit was the title song from a five song EP that was released by his group, The Mosquitos, in 1985. He was lead vocalist, songwriter and guitarist for The Mosquitos during their run in the early to mid 80s as one of the most popular club bands in NYC with performances at Peppermint Lounge, Beacon Theater, Irving Plaza and Folk City. The group gained the notice of trade publications and was known for original songs when most bands were doing only covers. In 1984-85 the Mosquitos presented acoustic shows long before MTV’s unplugged.

Overall Meaning

In Vance's song "At Night," the lyrics express the feeling of waiting forever for someone who finally appears and makes everything worth it. The singer expresses that before meeting this person, they couldn't find the sense of their life. The love interest became the reason for the singer to turn their life around and was able to steal their heart away. However, the love interest has moved on and left the singer feeling lost without them. The chorus expresses the singer's desire to be by the love interest's side when the sun goes down and to consider them as a princess of the night. The song expresses hope for a happy ending even though the love interest has moved on.
