The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Don't Take Your Love From Me

There is one who's smiling face the Gods would see
'Cause she'll walk along beside me up to golden stairs
Oh they'll never never take her love from me
What a fool I was to go and break the trust she gave
And to see her love turn into sympathy
It's the one regret I'll carry with me to my grave
Oh they'll never never take her love from me
I'm so thankful for each golden hour of happiness
That we shared together in the used to be
Someone else's arms may hold her now in uncaress
But they'll never never take her love from me
I thought I'd make her happy if I'd step aside
But I knew her love would never set me free
And even on the morning she became another's bride
I said they'll never never take her love from me
The lyrics of "They'll Never Take Her Love From Me" speak of the profound love of the singer for a woman who has left him. The song talks about how the woman’s love was sincere and unselfish, and the singer, in a moment of weakness, broke her trust, resulting in the loss of her affection. Despite her departure and finding love with someone else, the singer is still grateful for the time they spent together and knows that no one can ever take her love away from him.
The lyrics are heavy with regret and heartache, as the singer reflects on how foolish he was to let this love slip away. The line "What a fool I was to go and break the trust she gave" is a poignant reminder that betraying the trust of someone who loves you is a terrible mistake, and the repercussions can last a lifetime.
Many artists have covered "They'll Never Take Her Love From Me," with Hank Williams being the most notable. The song was originally written by Leon Payne in 1952, and many other artists have recorded versions of it, including Elvis Presley, Emmylou Harris, and George Jones.
