The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Heart Attack
Various Artists Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Oh wo-oh, oh wo-oh
We share something so common
Still so rare, and I'm in awe
Never been here before
So high, we're still climbing
Breaking each other's hearts
And we don't care 'cause we're so...
...In too deep, can't think about giving it up
But I never knew love would feel like a heart attack
It's killing me, swear I never cried so much
'Cause I never knew love would hurt this fuckin' bad
The worst pain that I ever had
Turn the lights on!
Oh wo-oh, never never never knew love (oh wo-oh) would hurt this fuckin' bad
The worst pain that I ever had
All the times when I know I should be smiling
Seem to be the time that I frown the most
Can't believe that we're still surviving
'Cause I'm slowly breaking down
Even when I hold you close
And if I lose you
I'm afraid I would lose who
Who I gave my love to
That's the reason I stay around
Even though I fell way...
In too deep, can't think about giving it up
But I never knew love would feel like a heart attack(oh and it's killing me)
It's killing me, swear I never cried so much
'Cause I never knew love would hurt this fuckin' bad
The worst pain that I ever had
Turn the lights on!
Oh wo-oh, never never never knew love (oh wo-oh) would hurt this fuckin' bad
The worst pain that I ever had
And it hurts,
'Cause I wanna leave, and you wanna leave
But the love keeps us together
And if I lose you
I'm afraid I would lose who
Who I gave my love to
That's the reason I stay around
Even though I fell way...
...In too deep, can't think about giving it up
But I never knew love would feel like a heart attack
If I knew id feel like this man
It's killing me, swear I never cried so much
'Cause I never knew love would hurt this fuckin' bad
The worst pain that I ever had
If I knew id feel like this man
Oh wo-oh, never never never knew love (oh wo-oh) would hurt this fuckin' bad
The worst pain that I ever had
The Various Artists song "Heart Attack" is an emotional ballad that explores the pain and confusion of love. The song begins with a call to "turn the lights on," which serves as a metaphor for the emotional exposure and vulnerability that comes with being in love. The lyrics convey a sense of awe at the rarity and intensity of the connection shared by the two lovers, but also acknowledge the ways in which they hurt each other. Despite the pain, the singers are "in too deep" to give up on their relationship, and they fear that losing each other would mean losing a part of themselves. Overall, the song speaks to the complex and often contradictory nature of love, which can both lift us up and break us down.
One interesting fact about "Heart Attack" is that it was originally released by the British band Scarlxrd in 2018. The Various Artists version was released in 2020 and features a different mix, as well as additional instrumentation and vocal harmonies. Another fact is that the song has been recognized for its relatable lyrics and powerful vocals, with some critics comparing it to classic breakup songs like "Love Hurts" or "Total Eclipse of the Heart." The song's music video has also been noted for its stark and dramatic imagery, which complements the song's emotional intensity.

Lyrics
Putting my defenses up
'Cause I don't wanna fall in love
If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack
Never put my love out on the line
Never said yes to the right guy
Never had trouble getting what I want
But when it comes to you, I'm never good enough
When I don't care, I can play 'em like a Ken doll
Won't wash my hair, then make 'em bounce like a basketball
But you make me wanna act like a girl
Paint my nails and wear high heels
Yes, you make me so nervous that I just can't hold your hand
You make me glow
But I cover up, won't let it show
So I'm putting my defenses up
'Cause I don't wanna fall in love
If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack
I think I'd have a heart attack
I think I'd have a heart attack
Never break a sweat for the other guys
When you come around, I get paralyzed
And every time I try to be myself
It comes out wrong like a cry for help
It's just not fair; pain's more trouble than love is worth
I gasp for air; it feels so good, but you know it hurts
But you make me wanna act like a girl
Paint my nails and wear perfume for you
Make me so nervous that I just can't hold your hand
You make me glow
But I cover up, won't let it show
So I'm putting my defenses up
'Cause I don't wanna fall in love
If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack
I think I'd have a heart attack
I think I'd have a heart attack
The feelings got lost in my lungs
They're burning; I'd rather be numb (rather be numb)
And there's no one else to blame (no one else to blame)
So scared, I take off, and I run
I'm flying too close to the sun
And I burst into fla-fla-flames
You make me glow
But I cover up, won't let it show
So I'm putting my defenses up
'Cause I don't wanna fall in love
If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack
I think I'd have a heart attack (heart attack)
I think I'd have a heart attack-tack
I think I'd have a heart attack (oh, I think I'd have a heart attack)
I think I'd have a heart attack
