lyrics:

What I cannot see cannot be not untrue
Standing on the barrier of me and you are
Standing where the ocean meets the sand
We cross though we barely understand
The grass is always greener on the land

What we cannot say cannot be not our fault
Searching for a harbor where the sharks don't call
I'm waiting where the boats arrive at night
I see the ones before me disappearing into light

Why would you go when you could stay?
Why would you try when you could walk away?
Why should I care when you're not mine?
Why would I care when you're not even my kind?
Why would you stand when you could lie?
Why would you bother to find something kind to say?
Why would you bother to love your own neighbor?
And why would you bother to love your own brother?
And love's so expensive these days

What I cannot do cannot be not undone
Blinking at the reef collapsing in the sunrise
Shining from this pamphlet in my hand
We cross as many fingers as we can
The grass keeps looking grayer as we find no place to land

What I cannot see cannot be not unseen
Standing on the barrier of you and me
Are standing where the ocean meets the land
We cross even though we understand
We cross even though we see the child in the sand

Why would you go when you could stay?
Why would you try when you could pass away?
Why would I care when you're not mine?
Why would I care when you're not even my kind?
Why would you stand when you could lie?
Why would you bother to find something kind to say?
Why would you bother to save your own neighbor?
And why would you bother to save your own brother?

Why would you bother to save your own child?
Why would you bother with all of this bother?
And why would you bother with all of these others?
When there's always you you could save….
Why, what are you crazy?
Why would you stand in harm's way?

What a beautiful song and video for such a sad subject that hurts me deeply. Refugees are OUR children, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, etc.. and all of us should take care of them and help them find their way back to life ! I live in a country (France) where it's forbidden to help refugees and we can even end up in jail for that... It's awful and It makes me terribly ashamed !!! But I don't care about these fratricidal laws and I'll continue to help and welcome refugees to my home as long as I can. Thanks Amanda for what you do to help them.. ...it's important.. ...and they need it so much..

thanks for your comment, kori. we will all stay awake to all of this, and help where and how we can. that's all we can do right now.

I will proudly stand for any of my brothers and sisters in humanity. I may be small, and weak, but will never turn away from someone in need. Thank you for sharing an important message with your beautiful music.

I was thinking about Aylan Kurdi just last week. I thought, "I wonder how many of the people who were so heart broken then have forgotten now?" How many have moved on from that image, enough to let current events and persuasive people in power sway their sympathy to fear, close our borders, close their own personal borders. It made me sad. That little life, so full of hope and potential, fleeing terrors unspeakable to a new life in a new land... gone. Claimed by the voyage meant to save his life, give him a future. I cannot even imagine the grief of his family, if it is so painful for me still, a total stranger.

I was feeling a little bitter, honestly, like a glass of lemonade that's had all the sugar sapped out of it. The idea he'd been forgotten about, that refugees were something people were fearing rather than helping. No one thinking of the little faces with their little eyes, shut forever by circumstances so beyond their control they cannot even conceive them. Then this video showed up in my notifications and I glanced at the title and before even clicking on it the tears came. There was his name. Aylan Kurdi. Not forgotten. Instruments played in his memory. Lyrics written for the life he didn't get to have. One of many, sadly.

Thank you Amanda (and everyone who helped her bring this into the world). We need more of this.

KORI G I stopped reading when you Assumed I was an American Christian. Wrong on both counts. Try again.

KORI G

Wayne Rae LOL you were in the place where and when the picture was taken ? The answers is NO and you live far far far far away from this place, you just talk about a thing that you don't know nothing about, you just believe what an other crazy disturbed madmen said because you're a weak and suggestible young man, stupide enough to beleive on the racist american propaganda !! I pity you, it must be hard to live without intelligence, without love, without truth.. It looks like you're a Christian or something near, who live in America, and you're talking about muslims that you don't even know a real thing about.. but I asking myself something; do you know the history of your country where millions of native Indians were killed by migrants from whom you came, surely not.. Ok, so now that I know you're an other crazy fucking racist and hysterical madman with psychiatric problems and who invents stories to reason with himself, I know I can't talk with people like you because you'll always be right, you'll always invent things that doesn't exist just to serve your purpose, you'll always try to fool people with your hate, ..boring ! Just have one more thing to tell : I live in a country where 49,000 refugees entered this year and more than 500,000 since ten years without any of the things you invent have never existed ! All the terrorists who did horrible things here are actually born in this country, not in Africa & middle east. Terrorists here ( I mean on the real world ) are NOT refugees, only stupid and suggestible people with no intelligence, no love, no compassion, no brain, and hate, just hate.. just as you are in fact ! Just for your education; I'm a white men, buddhist and married with a muslim girl, her muslim brother is gay, her father were killed by a hysterical white racist man (as it looks you are), her muslim mother is a doctor who works in a hospital for handicapped children, and all the muslim I know here are good people with love, and compassion, and intelligence, and none of them hates anyone.. things that you'll never understand in your madness. So, one day when you'll have a moment of lucidity, please take a hydrochloric acid bath and spare the earth from your useless presence, and hatred that you hang out ! Oh and you can answers what ever you want, I won't read, bye, peace..
