Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Vaughn Monroe & His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying

But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" by Vaughn Monroe & His Orchestra is a classic winter-time love song that describes a cozy atmosphere with an open fireplace and no place to go as the snow falls outside. The song captures the feelings of warmth and comfort of being with someone special during the winter season. Despite the snow and cold, the singer feels safe and secure knowing that they have found a love that provides a sense of comfort and reassurance.

The song's lyrics convey the idea of being trapped inside, but not feeling trapped because they have each other. The line "And since we've no place to go" expresses a sense of entrapment, but the song goes on to describe how the weather outside does not matter because there is warmth inside. When they finally kiss goodnight, the cold is forgotten because the warmth of the embrace takes over. The chorus repeats the phrase "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" as if to say that they do not mind being stuck inside as long as they have each other.

Near the end of his life, Sammy Cahn told a funny story about his 1945 song "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" One day the lyricist happened upon a magazine advertisement for a national airline, which depicted Judy happy families frolicking on the beach in Orlando while it was winter everywhere else in the country and the copy consisted of the words "Let it snow" repeated three times He called the ad agency to ask when his royalties would be forthcoming. They replied to the effect that "Let it snow" was merely a phrase in the English language, and the resemblance to anything Cahn had written was coincidental. Ah, he countered, but they could have written one "Let it snow" or they could have written four hundred. However, they had written "Let it snow" exactly three times and, therefore, were directly quoting his song. He had a point, and pretty soon he also had a check.

Actually it's "sung here by the marvelous" Vaughn Monroe, it says it right on the record, what even gave you the idea that this was Jo Stafford??😮

This one is always in my Christmas music rotation. Lots of memories of my folks who were part of the Greatest Generation and my grandparents who were around then as well. Sweet memories. Thanks for sharing this classic Christmas song.
