For once in my life
It's gonna feel real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right
As I turned up the collar on my favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin′ my mind
I see the kids in the street, with not enough to eat
A summer's disregard, a broken bottle top
And one man's soul
They follow each other on the wind ya know
Cause they got nowhere to go
That′s why I want you to know
I′m starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
I′ve been a victim of a selfish kinda love
It's time that I realize
There are some with no home
Not a nickel to loan
Could it be really me pretending that they′re not alone
A willow deeply scarred, somebody's broken heart
And a washed out dream
They follow the pattern of the wind ya see
Cause they got no place to be
That′s why I'm starting with me
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I′m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
Take a look at yourself and then make the change
You gotta get it right, while you got the time
Cause when you close your heart
Then you close your mind
Make that change!
The lyrics of Vega Choir's song "Man in the Mirror" convey a powerful message about personal transformation and taking responsibility for making a positive impact in the world. The artist expresses a desire to make a change, emphasizing that it will feel good and make a difference. Through vivid imagery, the singer reflects on their own privilege and the realities faced by others less fortunate, particularly children living in poverty. The song challenges the listener to confront their own blindness to the suffering around them and to recognize the need for action.
The lyrics further explore the theme of personal growth by acknowledging past mistakes and shortcomings. The singer admits to having been caught up in a self-centered kind of love and realizing the importance of empathy and compassion for those without a home or support. The song emphasizes the interconnectedness of all individuals and the shared responsibility to uplift and support one another.
Overall, "Man in the Mirror" encourages self-reflection, recognizing that true change begins within oneself. By acknowledging one's own faults and awakening to the lives and struggles of others, the song urges listeners to make positive changes that can resonate and inspire others, ultimately making the world a better place.
