Depressionesque
Vendetta Red Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I smell her in my blanket when I'm sleeping
Strange how they hurt you
stinging memories they break your heart
And it's gone so fast
The only girl I ever loved is slipping through my hands
I blew a kiss, waved goodbye
turned my head and hid my eyes so you wouldn't see me cry
Count me out cause I'm a mess
A twisted accident a psychological wreck
A bruising sentiment
We'll count back and curtsey
The curtain falls and I begin to burn
We stand out like statues
impervious to pardoning our French
The first lines of "Depressionesque" by Vendetta Red give us a feeling of imprisonment, of being trapped. The line “imprisoned in perfume” suggests an overbearing scent, one that is suffocating, which alludes to the idea of being trapped or stuck. The singer is haunted by the scent of someone, who has hurt them deeply. Memories of this person haunt them, the bittersweet memory stings them, tearing at their heartstrings. The sentiment of loss and pain is felt in the repetition of the line, “And it's gone so fast” while the singer tells of the girl who he lost- who has slipped through his fingers despite being the only person he ever loved.
The chorus of “Depressionesque” conveys sadness, self-loathing, and despair. The singer feels like they are a mess, words like “twisted” and “psychological wreck” make that clear. They feel like they are a mistake, an accident, something that should not have happened. They are consumed by their pain, which is evident in the line “A bruising sentiment,” which can mean that their emotions are heavy and painful, and this feeling is something that they can't shake off.

Futures Passed
Wow, this doesn't sound like the rest of the Sisters of the Red Death tunes, other than the chorus's guitar distortion. This is my first listen, though. I thought I had all their songs already!
