Timeless
Vexis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Floating through time
Up in the sky
Pressing rewind
Head to a different life
Back to a life where you had to fight
Just to get by
Find your necessities
No store to buy
Anything that you need
No pills prescribed
Then you get sick
Rot away n just die
No cellphones to tell your friends to come by
Tell em you love em
Hang up clothes to dry
Protect what is yours
I’ll protect what is mine
Give and take of different worlds
Which one is prime?
Maybe we passed it
And now we decline
Think I’d still love to see another side
Humanity so desensitized
Like they ain’t no tears in they eyes
You slay a man and nobody surprised
Hop back through the portal
Medieval times
Now I’m a merchant
Able to travel
Sell goods and obtain a profit
At any moment they could come and rob me
Born into class and there's no chance of rising
Still it was simpler
Wake up, do your job, and felt like you prospered
Still amongst lesser
Kick dust at a noble n see a death sentence
Now I’m on the run
These people just vicious
Now I’m thinkin maybe we was just destined
We smarter but we still actin like animals
Don’t get it twisted
My feelings stay neutral
Going back to the present
Maybe the things I’ve seen wasn’t unusual
Maybe it wasn't unusual
I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know
Aye
But our difference is you don’t know you don’t
I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know
Aye
But our difference is you don’t know you don’t
What’s it gon take?
We ain’t changed
Still the damn same
What’s it gon take?
Progress more into hell’s gates
Time repeat itself
In our dna
We can’t erase
I accept it
Know my place

Keep openin my brain
We ain’t changed much

Overall Meaning

In "Timeless," Vexis contemplates on the idea of time travel and explores how the human experience has changed over time. The song begins with the singer floating through time while being transported back to eras where life was much simpler but also a struggle. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a world with no modern convenience - where people had to fight just to meet their basic needs, there were no pills to cure illness, and no cell phones to call for help. He highlights how difficult life was, yet it was still considered a simpler time in comparison to the present day.

The singer then takes us on a journey where he is transported back to the medieval times and becomes a merchant. This presents a striking contrast between how one can travel and sell goods to make a living without any guarantee of safety - at any time, someone could come and robbing them. Vexis also draws attention to the harsh social order that existed in those times; where a noble could condemn someone to death without remorse.

In the latter half of the song, Vexis questions whether humanity has progressed or evolved over time. He points out that even though society has modernized, we still act like animals - desensitized to violence and murder. He emphasizes the importance of continuing to learn from the past, while keeping an open mind to progress towards a better future.
