I feel this is a very underrated pieace of music

@jamesjwalsh

So is the 1934 Laurel and Hardy film that made this music famous.

The part starting at 1:39, and repeating at the end, has always struck me as romantic. Combining this mixed feeling of victory, joy, and perhaps the romantic, butterfly excitement of making eye contact with someone you love, and she gives you a shy, warm smile in return. The scene goes down at night, with the nostalgic amber lights shining upon the cheerful, marching crowd.

YES! This is also my favorite part .but not in a romantic way, but more of the feeling of the pomp and pageantry of it all.

I've noticed posters here ascribing the composer as Tchaikovsky. Victor Herbert is becoming an obscure composer. This is an excellent recording of a classic. 🎶

I think people are getting this march and Tchaikovsky’s march from the Nutcracker mixed up.

We had the opportunity to play this for band. When I listened to it, it filled me with excitement to be able to play a bunch of difficult rhythms as someone who plays Bari Sax, but instead we chose to play A Fireside Christmas (a compilation of typical Christmas songs) over something cool like this because my class prefers to do something that’s easy over something that’s interesting. No hate on fireside, but I would really prefer to play something like this. Because this is cool and interesting
