Around the World
Victor Young Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Around the world I searched for you
I traveled on
when hope was gone
to keep a rendez-vous
I knew some where, some time, some how
You'd look at me
And I would see
the smile you're smiling now

It might have been in country Down
or in New York in gayparee
or even London Town
No more will I
go all Around The World

For I have found
my world in you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Victor Young's song "Around the World" are about a person who is searching for their true love. The singer says that they have traveled all over the world in search of this person, even when they were feeling hopeless. They were determined to keep a rendez-vous with their love and eventually, they knew that they would find them. The singer imagines the moment when they finally meet their true love and sees the smile that the love is smiling now.

The song reflects the idea that true love is worth searching for and that it can be found anywhere and at any time. The singer suggests that love is not bound by physical location, as they looked for their love in various cities around the world. However, once they find their love, they no longer need to go anywhere else because their world is complete.

Overall, the message of the song is one of hope and perseverance. Despite the singer's journey being long and difficult, they never gave up hope that they would find their true love. When they finally do, they realize that all of their past struggles were worth it, as they have found the missing piece that completes their world.

The prettiest music that ever came from a motion picture. The composer was Victor Young. Michael Todd, the producer, gave this his all. He got every actor he wanted in this and would not take no for an answer. He even developed a more efficient wide screen format for this. Cinemascope needed two cameras and two projectors. Todd's AO used only one camera.

The movie starred David Niven and Cantinflas. Todd spent two months convincing David Niven to take the part. At the time this movie was made, Cantinflas was the highest paid performer in the world.

Supporting roles went to the new up and coming starlet, Shirley MacLaine, and Robert Newton. The list of cameo appearances is as long as your arm, and they include Joe E. Brown, Frank Sinatra, Noël Coward, Trevor Howard, José Greco, Peter Lorre, and many, many more.

This wonderful movie is a masterwork in motion pictures! No expense was spared, and the motion picture produced a profit! This was Michael Todd's first and only movie he ever made.

The movie was released in '56. The soundtrack was in stereo, which had been invented only two years earlier.

Watched the movie with mother when I was 9. Watched it again on CD with my aging mother before she passed away. We both sang it for the last time. I look forward to singing this with her when we reunite in heaven.

One of the greatest, and most appropriate film scores of all time. Victor Young was awesome.

When I was a child in the 1960's, my parents had a small wooden sailing boat in their den with a wind-up music box. This was the tune it played, and I've remembered it ever since. It's nice to finally know who wrote it and hear it again...
