The band began with Kaarle Viikate and Simeoni Viikate who remained the only members of the band until 2005, when Arvo and Ervo, the band's long-time live members, joined the band officially. The band's most well-known hits are "Ei ole ketään kelle soittaa" (There's no one to call), "Leimu" (Flame), and "Pohjoista Viljaa" (Northern Harvest).

The lyrics of Viikate’s song “Varpunen jouluaamuna” describes the winter season and the story follows a small bird called Varpunen, as she navigates the harsh environment.
