A friendship with Philly DJ King Britt led to an immersion in modern dance music. He contributed vocals to Britt's Scuba project (Swell) and soon was producing his own material; underground singles like "Messages," "Manhood," and "Sensuality" went over well with house DJs, including Masters at Work, who gave "Sensuality" a big push. His sound was characterized by Duplaix's quiet sensual crooning juxtaposed with his signature disparate jittery percussion. Remixes and collaborations with the likes of Jazzanova and an installment in !K7's DJ Kicks series all led up to International Affairs, Duplaix's full-length debut as a solo artist. The album was released in Europe in late 2002; it came out in the States early the following year. In 2006 he released his second solo album entitled Bold and Beautiful on BBE records.
You Saw It All

Not even my best
You're almost of essential though
Along with the rest
You're not my only sense
You're one of a few
You know when to leave alone
You show me the view
Allies across the years
You witnessed the best
Gave drainage for all my tears
And closed on request
You saw before me when
I knew it all
You turned the other way
Watching me fall
You see it all
If when you're leaving me
Remember me this
If we're dependent still
We cannot miss
You're maybe the last to go
Probably the first
Show me a little place
Where I can grow worse
And as you retreat from me
The closer I come
Further from yesterday
Nearer the sun
And though I may never see
All that you did
Promise me nothing more
You saw it all
These lyrics by Vikter Duplaix express gratitude and admiration towards a friend who has been a constant presence throughout the years. The first verse describes the friend as not being the only one, but essential along with the rest. The second verse speaks of the friend's loyalty and support across the years, witnessing the best and the worst moments, providing comfort and being willing to turn a blind eye when needed. The chorus reinforces the idea that this friend is able to see it all and has been a significant part of the artist's life.
The third verse is a plea to remember the connection even if the friend is leaving, acknowledging the dependency that has grown between them. There is a recognition that the friend might be the last or the first to go and a desire to find a place where the artist can continue to grow, even if it means getting worse. The final verse brings the imagery of the sun and the progression of time, acknowledging that the friend may have done more than the artist has seen and not requiring any promises from them.
Overall, the song speaks to the importance of having a friend who can see the whole picture, who has been there through thick and thin, and who can let go when needed.
