Villainettes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Verse 1:
I saw you - Looking down
Youʼre waking up - The underground
I lost you - Were never found
You fell apart - Without a sound
What will stop you from breaking my heart? My heart Chorus:
Iʼm gonna get to you - another time.
Verse 2:
Watching my - Own shadow
Staring back - Like a widow
Breaking down - All the parts
Like a box - Of lonely hearts
Resist you - Falling under

If you love me - I surrender
What will stop you from breaking my heart? My heart Chorus:
Iʼm Gonna get to you - another time

Outro:
Die, Die, Diamonds in your eyes x 3

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Villainettes's song Diamonds talk about the singer's experience of witnessing someone close to them suffer and lose themselves in the "underground". The intro describes the person, who is looking down and waking up the underground, which can be interpreted as someone depressed or lost in the darkness. The singer then admits to losing them, and they were never found. They fell apart without making a sound, which highlights the lack of communication and the inability to express what they were going through.

Moving onto the chorus, the singer expresses their determination to reach out to the person again, even if it takes "another time". In Verse 2, the singer turns inward, describing their own experience of feeling alone and broken. They symbolize themselves as a "box of lonely hearts" with all the parts breaking down. However, their resolve is strong, and they will resist falling under the pressure. They surrender themselves to love fully, even imagining that they are under threat of having their heart broken.

The outro, where they repeatedly sing "Die, Die, Diamonds in your eyes" is a way of showing that they are willing to face whatever is ahead of them, including darkness and chaos, as long as they can be with that person. The diamonds in their eyes could symbolize the person's beauty or their inner resilience that is yet to be discovered.
