How far can we go?
It's making me crazy
It's making me crazy
But it's always amazing
How much can we choose?
How much do we lose?
It's making me crazy
But it's always amazing
A pair of sick hands
Try to tear at their arms
And a lunatic lands
In the back of a car crash
Taking my time
But I'm taking my choice back
Everyone's running
But it's always amazing
It's always amazing
How long can we wait?
How much can we take?
I don't know if everything has a reason
I don't know that I'm sure
But I'm sure that I know the feeling
It's making me crazy
It's making me crazy
But it's always amazing
But it's always amazing
Oh, the great indoors
Oh, the great indoors
How much can we know?
How far can we go?
Oh, I'm running
I don't know if everything has a reason
I don't know that I'm sure
But I'm sure that I know the feeling
It's making me crazy
It's making me crazy
But it's always amazing
But it's always amazing
A pair of sick hands
Try to tear at their arms
And a lunatic lands
In the back of a car crash
Taking my time
But I'm taking my life back
Everything shines
Through the slit in the fabric
Helping me to
Run through you
But it's always amazing
It's always amazing
The lyrics of Virgil's song "Amazing" contemplate the boundaries of human knowledge, choice and resilience, and their relationship with the experience of life. The singer wonders how much we can really understand about the world and ourselves, and how far we can push our limits. These questions seem to cause him inner turmoil, as he expresses feeling "crazy". However, despite the difficulties, he acknowledges that life is always "amazing".
The second stanza introduces an image of sickness and desperation, as someone tries to harm themselves and another person suffers a car accident. In this context, the singer reflects on the value of time and choices, and how sometimes we need to take control of our lives back. He observes that others may be running away from their problems, but he still finds life "amazing", albeit in a bittersweet way.
The third stanza revisits some of the questions posed earlier, particularly how much we can endure before breaking down. The singer admits he is uncertain whether everything has a reason, but he is certain that he experiences emotions that test his sanity. The song ends with a repetition of the idea that it's "always amazing", as if to suggest that even when things are hard, there's still something valuable about the human experience.
