Green was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and took an interest in singing, playing the piano, and songwriting at a very young age. At the age of thirteen, she became a member of a female quintet called Younique. Green received her big break at the age of nineteen when she became a backing singer for Jill Scott, who took her on an international tour. She was signed to Columbia Records in November 2001. Green released her first album, featuring the hit "Emotional Rollercoaster", in November 2002 in the U.S. and February 2003 in the United Kingdom. Her second album, featuring the first single "Gotta Go, Gotta Leave (Tired)", was released almost three years later, in June 2005. Green was engaged to Erik Tribbet, a drummer from nearby Camden, New Jersey, with whom she has a son named Jordan.

Paint the town, just me and the girls
But somehow you became apart of that simple equation
And all I'm thinkng about now is the love we could be making
I could be your sweet thing, yeah
I could be your sweet thing yeah, yeah, yeah
I can do anything sweet, sweet thing
I could be your sweet thing, yeah
I could be your sweet thing, yeah, yeah, yeah
I can do anything, be a sweet thing
Do you feel how much I want to?
'Cause I want you baby and I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
'Cause I want you baby, I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
I couldn't help but notice you sitting right across the room
Your fine, your fly, just the right type seems like
It's not like my imagination to run wild
But there's something about the energy your given me
I could be your sweet thing, yeah
I could be your sweet thing yeah, yeah, yeah
I can do anything sweet, sweet thing
Do you feel how much I want you?
I could be your sweet thing, yeah
I could be your sweet thing, yeah, yeah, yeah
I can do anything, be a sweet thing
Do you feel how much I want to?
'Cause I want you baby and I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
Yes, I want you baby, I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
'Cause I want you baby and I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
'Cause I want you baby, I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
I could be your sweet thing, yeah
I could be your sweet thing yeah, yeah, yeah
I can do anything, be a sweet thing
Do you feel how much I want you?
I could be your sweet thing, yeah
I could be your sweet thing, yeah, yeah, yeah
I can do anything, be a sweet thing
Do you feel how much I want to?
'Cause I want you baby and I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
'Cause I want you baby, I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
'Cause I want you baby and I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
Yes, I want you baby, I know you feel it too
I'm crazy 'bout you [Incomprehensible]
'Cause I want you baby
The song “Sweet Thing” by Vivian Green is about a woman who had planned a night out with her friends, but unexpectedly falls for a man sitting across the room. She is swept away by his energy and becomes distracted from her original intentions. The lyrics are an invitation to the man to give her a chance to be his “sweet thing” and feel how much she wants him. The song is catchy and upbeat with a strong bassline and an R&B influence.
The opening lines of the song reveal the singer’s pursuit of a fun night out, but the sight of the man across the room redirects her thoughts. She feels that he could be the love she has been searching for and wants to be his “sweet thing”. The repetition of the phrase “I could be your sweet thing” emphasizes her willingness to give up her freedom and become committed to him. The lyrics are suggestive, but subtle enough to leave room for interpretation. The song ends with the singer’s affirmation of her feelings, assuring the man that she wants him and is “crazy 'bout” him.
Overall, the song is a confident expression of romantic interest. The singer puts herself out there and asks the man to give her a chance, showcasing a self-assured and flirtatious attitude.
