Roar
Vocal Rush Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I used to bit my tongue and hold my breath
scared to rock the boat and make a mess.
So I sat quietly, agreed politely.
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point.
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything.
You held me down, but I got up,
Get ready 'cause i'v had enough,
I see it all, I see it now,
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,
dancing through the fire,
'Cause I am a champion,
And you're gonna hear me roar!
Now I'm floating like a butterfly,
stinging like a bee, I've earned my stripes,
I went from zero to my own hero.
You held me down, but I got up,
Get ready 'cause I've had enough!
I see it all, I see it now,
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,
dancing through the fire,
'cause i am a champion,
And you're gonna hear me roar!
Louder, louder than a lion,
'cause I am a champion,
and you're gonna hear me roar!
(you're gonna hear me roar, you're gonna hear me roar)
(gonna hear me roar)
You're gonna hear me roar, yeah!
I got the eye of the tiger, fighter,
dancing through the fire,
'cause I am a champion,
And you're gonna hear me roar!
Roa-a-a-a-a-a-or!
Roa-a-a-a-a-a-or!
Roa-a-a-a-a-a-or!

You're gonna hear me ROAR!
End

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Vocal Rush's "Roar" are a powerful statement about overcoming fear and finding one's voice. It starts with the singer admitting that she used to be passive, afraid to speak up and make waves. She realized that she had given up her power and let others control her. But now, she has had enough and is ready to take charge. The chorus is a declaration of her strength and determination to succeed, no matter what obstacles might come her way. She has the eye of the tiger, a reference to the theme song from the movie Rocky III, which symbolizes strength and resilience. She is a fighter and a champion, and everyone will hear her roar.

Throughout the song, there are several references to sports, martial arts, and other physical activities. The singer talks about being a butterfly and a bee, both of which are fast and agile. She has earned her stripes, meaning she has proven herself through hard work and determination. She went from zero to her own hero, which suggests that she has overcome great adversity to become the person she is today.

The message of "Roar" is empowering to anyone who may be struggling to find their voice or overcome obstacles in their lives. The lyrics encourage listeners to stand up for themselves and never give up, no matter how difficult the journey may be. I love this performance!!

Daisy P

this feels like... like the end of a movie? Like a season finale of Glee? so epic.

Jorick Soriano

I think all they're missing is a sense of consistent timing, someone or someones to properly hold the beat. If they had that, they would be a great force to be reckoned with

Jacob Mccann

I just watched all of the VR vids in order to see the pre-song reels.  The thing i noticed is that the producers must have really liked Kyana.  I think she appears the most in those packages, particularly after "against all odds."  I think she might have also got disproportional camera time during the performances, but i might just have imagined that because I think she's kinda neat.  I'm not sure I even know half of their names.  I wish i could have heard more from/about the "band," all those girls not singing solos(or being Kyana).

Producers did the same thing with the female beatboxer from Backbeats in Season 2. She was cool, too, but I got tired of seeing her.

They definitely did have a problem with rushing and all that and getting caught in the moment - but if they keep practising, I think they will eventually reach a level they couldn't even imagine
