In May 2013, Void of Vision released their debut self-published two-track Reflect // Revolt on Bandcamp. Influenced by bands such as Parkway Drive, Architects, System of a Down, and Rage Against the Machine, their genre has been described as progressive metalcore and djent.
The band gained attention in 2014 when they unveiled the music video for their first single, "Life//Blood." Later that year, they embarked on three national tours and released their debut EP, Broken // Bones, in October, which earned the distinction of being Blunt Magazine's EP of the Year for 2014. In December, Void of Vision released a music video for the track "Persist // Perceive," featuring Mason Bunt from Pridelands.
Void of Vision signed with the UNFD record label in 2016 and released the singles "//" and "Ctrl Freak" before their debut studio album, Children of Chrome, dropped on September 30. They embarked on their first international tour in February 2017, supporting Chelsea Grin on the Self Inflicted European Tour. Later that year, they released their second EP, Disturbia, and recorded a rendition of Silverchair's "Israel's Son" for the tribute album Spawn (Again).
In 2018, Void of Vision released a limited physical edition of Disturbia on vinyl and unveiled the standalone single and music video for "Kill All My Friends." The band performed at the inaugural Good Things festival that year.
In 2019, Void of Vision released their sophomore studio album, Hyperdaze, accompanied by singles such as "Hole in Me," a cover of Slipknot's "Psychosocial," and tracks like "Babylon" and "If Only." They joined Northlane on the Australian and European legs of the Alien World Tour.
The band continued their musical journey with the release of the music video for "Decay" in July 2020, followed by collaborations with Thornhill's lead singer Jacob Charlton and Ecca Vandal. They also participated in the Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them Australian Album Tour with the Amity Affliction. In March 2021, they released the remix album Hyperdaze (Redux).
Void of Vision released the single "The Lonely People" in September 2021, accompanied by a music video. They followed it up with the release of "VAMPYR" in October, along with the announcement of their EP Chronicles I: Lust, which contained four tracks. In 2022, they released the single "Dominatrix" and the EP Chronicles II: Heaven, featuring the track "Altar" with guest vocals from Hannah Greenwood of Creeper.
Babylon
Void Of Vision Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How through the creases in our skin they caress the soul
Why you always gotta lie straight to my face?
There is no God, we were born to rot and we all die the fucking same
You hear me?
We are all miserable, waiting to feel the burn
Into an empire of dirt
No gods, no masters motherfucker
The opening lines of "Babylon" by Void Of Vision explore the idea of intuition and how even though there may be a sense of understanding deep down, it's hard to explain. It's like feeling something in your bones that you can't quite put into words. The next line, "How through the creases in our skin they caress the soul," likely speaks to the idea that our experiences shape and impact our inner selves.
The following lines delve into the theme of deception, with the singer questioning why someone would lie to them directly. This leads into the nihilistic perspective that there is no higher power, and that ultimately everyone is going to die. The refrain "We are all miserable, waiting to feel the burn" emphasizes the feeling of suffering as a universal experience that no one is immune to. The final line, "No gods, no masters motherfucker," is a direct rejection of authority and traditional structures of power.
Overall, the song Babylon is a powerful critique of societal structures that lead to suffering and oppression, with a focus on the disillusionment and lack of hope that comes from that.
