Von Kaiser Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've seen it all before through someone else's eyes
You Never decide
It's journey undertaken without compromise,
Ending with our lives
Now we're all grown up and know about everything,
The magic's all gone with the video arcade
I'll never get back where it all began
I'll never be the age I was before
I'll never be the same again
The City blocks roll past and I forget why I ever moved back,
The soft scent of her perfume stuck to the passenger seat
Headrest all tilted back; colors moving,
Changing shape before fading to black
Now we're all grown up and know about everything,
The magic's all gone with the video arcade
I'll never hear that sound again,
I'll never get back where it all began
I'll never be the age I was before
I'll never be the same again
Drop the quarter in the slot,
Press the button, everything is lost
Leave your life behind
Ready, begin
Level one, your chance to shine
I'll never hear that sound again,
I'll never get back where it all began
I'll never be the age I was before
I'll never be the same again
The song "Flashbacks" by Von Kaiser showcases the theme of nostalgia and the realization that things will never be the same again. In the first verse, the lyrics "From bonfires to the tallest spires, I've seen it all before through someone else's eyes" signify the reliving of memories from someone else's past. The line "You never decide, it's journey undertaken without compromise, ending with our lives" shows the inevitability of life moving forward and not being able to undo past decisions. The last line of the verse "Now we're all grown up and know about everything, the magic's all gone with the video arcade" highlights the disillusionment that comes with growing up and realizing that things are not as magical as they once seemed.
In the second verse, the lyrics "The city blocks roll past and I forget why I ever moved back" reflects on the feeling of being lost and unsure of one's decisions. The line "Now we're all grown up and know about everything, the magic's all gone with the video arcade" is repeated, emphasizing the idea that adulthood often comes with a loss of innocence and wonder. The last two lines of the verse, "Headrest all tilted back; colors moving, changing shape before fading to black" paint a nostalgic image of a past memory that is fading away.
The chorus "I'll never hear that sound again, I'll never get back where it all began, I'll never be the age I was before, I'll never be the same again" echoes the sentiment of longing for a past that can never be regained. The final verse references arcade games with lines such as "drop the quarter in the slot, press the button, everything is lost" and "ready, begin, level one, your chance to shine." These lyrics suggest the idea that arcade games are a metaphor for life and how we must keep moving forward despite the losses and memories we leave behind.

From Bonfires to the tallest spires,
I've seen it all before through someone else's eyes
I have witnessed every aspect of life from the smallest fires to the highest point of architecture, but always through the lens of someone else.
You Never decide
It's journey undertaken without compromise,
Ending with our lives
Life is a journey we must take, without any say in the matter, and it ends only when we die.
Now we're all grown up and know about everything,
The magic's all gone with the video arcade
As we grow older, the excitement and wonder of things like arcades and video games fade away, replaced by reality.
I'll never hear that sound again,
I'll never get back where it all began
I'll never be the age I was before
I'll never be the same again
The past is gone, and we can never fully return to it, we continue to age and change.
The City blocks roll past and I forget why I ever moved back,
The soft scent of her perfume stuck to the passenger seat
Headrest all tilted back; colors moving,
Changing shape before fading to black
Returning to a familiar place can make you forget why you even came back. Memories linger, captured by our senses, but ultimately fade away.
Drop the quarter in the slot,
Press the button, everything is lost
Leave your life behind
Ready, begin
Level one, your chance to shine
Life can feel like a never-ending game, where we put our all into it for only temporary success, but regardless we continue to play the game of life.

I have a theory that Von Kaiser used to be a young talented up and coming boxer, who was abled to get a record of lets say 15-0 with 10 KOs.
Then the first world war started (or maybe the second depending what makes more sense) and Kaiser being the proud and devoted german that he was gladly joined his fellow german comrades, not knowing what was waiting in the horrors of war.
After the war he was traumatized and suffered major PTSD and also being that he would of been focusing on a war instead of his boxing career for around 4-6 years, that would mean he would have to regain that lost experience.
But because of the PTSD he never found the full drive and motivation. And maybe after the war he saw every one of his opponents as a reflection of the enemy soldiers he had to shoot and kill so thats why he never got any more knockouts in his career because he did not dare to hurt his opponents too badly and thats why he gained so many losses and could only get a few wins from time to time.
Though because of his massive ego and confidence he refuses to accept reality and what hes going through so thats why he always seems to egotistical and cowardly. Thats why in title defense, he has a punch that knocks you down in one punch, he found his drive back to boxing thanks to little mac!
Though being 42 still meant he was not the same but a glimmer of that past boxer shined through as he was abled to throw full force again. If this theory is correct imagine what kind of absolute powerhouse Von Kaiser would of been, his nickname is the german steel machine after all.

@Mr_Cast
Von Kaiser shivering after being beaten has to be one of the most heartbreaking things ever. The poor man is too old to fight and has PTSD

And just hear when you punch him in the gut. Poor guy just needs a good buddy
@LegioXXl
He legally is too old at 42 (most careers end at 40 due to the high competition being too much)
@Lmaoeth
Yeah but I’m his title defense version he is a powerhouse, he is one of the few boxers to have a one punch knockdown, he no longer gets scared and he dodged your punches
