Vroom (originally comprised of members John Johnson, Tim Seay, Jim Kellaris and Nate Foutz) released three albums and an EP during their tenure as a band between the late 90's and 2004. Their first album (Things Not to Do) was recorded while the band members were in high school. The album's melodic pop-punk style was well received at the time and won the band a following throughout the Mid-Atlantic region of the US, but also found fans as far away as the West coast. It was also during this time that original bassist Jim Kellaris left the band to pursue other interests. For shows after Jim left, Jason Garner filled in on bass.
The band's follow-up album, "...Throws Like a Girl" was recorded in Nashville, TN in late 1998 by John Painter (of Fleming and John fame). Painter played bass on the album in the absence of a permanent bass player. The album was released in 1999 while the band was in college. It was by far their most successful effort at that time, and remains their most popular work to date. Backed by frequent touring (during which Ron Babbington became the permanent bass player), the band expanded and solidified their following from Boston to Miami. With some tracks earning radio play, Vroom created quite a buzz around the indie scene well into 2001.
At that time the band released an EP entitled "A Five Song Demonstration". The EP marked a small shift in style, moving away from pop-punk into more of a pop-rock feel. The recording quality of the EP did the band no favors, and was not as well received as "...Throws Like a Girl". Still, the songs came off much better live than they did in a recorded form and the band pressed on.
In 2003, after failing to find a home on a label, the band decided to call it quits. They did, however, record and produce a final album on their own comprised of the remaining new songs in their catalog. This album (Rosebud) again marked a shift in the bands style toward a bit more experimental form of the pop-rock they'd previously been toying with. While "A Five Song Demonstration" was intended to be completely radio-friendly, "Rosebud" was a no holds barred approach to making music. As a result, the album is somewhat unconventional in tone and production.
In 2004 after a short farewell tour, the band called it quits. In 2005 they reunited for one show at The Drowsy Poet in their hometown of Lynchburg, VA. A video of this show can be found on Google Video.

Reach the phone and tells me something isn't right
I answer and I tell him I have no idea It wasn't me I never left your sight.
I swear that I have been wrongfully charged. It seems like such a small
things to tear friends apart
Adam and I thought that we could have a good time
Figured that you probably wouldn't mind
It was the only thing I ever loved. If you met me would you say "hi" to me?
Or would you believe if I said that I was wrong
It was the worst thing I have ever done.
How deep is the wound'how long is this avenue?
For the crime I wish I could undue.
Adam and I snuck into your house
He told your mom that he left his jacket down
stairs he led me in the back door I snuck around
then we made away without a sound
Send me a letter
'write me a postcard
give me a reason so I can be sure
If you left me would you say "bye" to me?
Then as we made our get away in Adam's four door chevrolet we knew you'd find out someday'
And yes, what we did was very wrong To you the system did belong
But you acted so withdrawn,I don't know why, I don't understand
And so would you believe I never had a clue?
Something so trite would be misconstrued.
How deep is the wound'how long is this avenue?
For the crime I wish I could undue.
Would you believe if I said that I was wrong
It was the worst thing I have ever done.
How deep is the wound'how long is this avenue?
For the crime I wish I could undue.
The lyrics of Vroom's song "25 Years" tell a story of regret and guilt over a past mistake. The singer recounts how they and a friend, Adam, took a Nintendo console from their friend Peter's house without his knowledge or consent. They sneaked in and out unnoticed, but eventually, Peter found out what had happened, and their friendship was damaged. The singer expresses remorse over what they did and wishes they could take it back.
The first verse begins with a phone call in the middle of the night, where Peter tells the singer that something is wrong. The singer denies having anything to do with it and insists that they never left Peter's sight. Next, the singer confesses to stealing Peter's Nintendo and expresses their love for the console. They wonder if Peter would acknowledge them if they met and apologize for what they did. In the second verse, the singer narrates how they and Adam carried out the theft unnoticed, making their getaway in Adam's car. They regret that what they did damaged their friendship with Peter and left a deep wound.
The lyrics of "25 Years" showcase the theme of guilt and regret over a past mistake. The story highlights the consequences of taking things that do not belong to us and the importance of acknowledging wrongdoing.
