Into The Arms Of You
Wade Bowen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baby don't speak, save your energy
Just write down what you have to say
Should I turn on the tv? Can I get you anything?
I'll be right here when you wake
I thought we had a million years
And I spent them like you'd be right here
Now it's coming in loud and clear
Maybe much too late my dear

CHORUS:
How long, baby, how long, have you held my heart?
Hold on, if you can hold on, but if we're torn apart
When you cross the great divide, beg Jesus to
Pull me onto the other side, into the arms of you

Sitting here drowning in a sea of our memories
Our first apartment, you on the couch
The way you kissed me, and all those little things
Now that's all I want to think about
God if you gave us a million more
I'd spend my life on what life should be spent for
Just let both of us walk out that door

CHORUS

I can't imagine living here without you
So if anything happens, that's what you've gotta do
Tell Pete to open up the gates and let me through

CHORUS

Into the arms of you
Into the arms of you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wade Bowen's song "Into The Arms Of You" paint a poignant picture of a lover sitting by their sick partner's side, reminiscing on their past and contemplating their future. The first verse sets the scene with the lover asking if they can do anything for their partner before letting them rest. The sense of urgency and finality is evident in the lyrics "Should I turn on the tv? Can I get you anything? I'll be right here when you wake." The following line shows the regret that the lover is feeling as they had assumed they had more time together. "I thought we had a million years, And I spent them like you'd be right here, Now it's coming in loud and clear, Maybe much too late my dear." Here the lover is realizing that they took their partner for granted and didn't cherish the time they had together.

The chorus of the song speaks to the emotional turmoil that the lover is experiencing. They are questioning how long their partner has held their heart and are urging them to hold on for as long as they can. The lyrics "When you cross the great divide, beg Jesus to Pull me onto the other side, into the arms of you" show the desperation that the lover is feeling as they want to be reunited with their partner even in the afterlife. The second verse takes the listener back to the happy moments that the couple shared, from their first apartment to small intimate moments between them. The lyrics "God if you gave us a million more, I'd spend my life on what life should be spent for, Just let both of us walk out that door" show that the lover is willing to do anything to spend more time with their partner.

Overall, "Into The Arms Of You" is a beautifully written song that captures the emotions of love, loss and regret. The lyrics paint a picture of a lover who is willing to do anything to be with their partner, even in death.

on Who I Am

This is by far my favorite version of this song. "Well I've always loved you baby and I may not always do what's right" are way better lyrics than " Well I know I love the ladies love to go out at night"
