Backin Up Song
Walk Off the Earth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I’m backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up
Cause my daddy taught me good
I’m backin’ the hell outta there
And I’m like oh my God, oh my God, my God

I’m backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up
Cause my daddy taught me good
And I think maybe I should faint. But I don’t. NO
My daddy taught me good.

I was putting one more type of coffee in my coffee cup
And outta the corner of my eyes I saw two guys come in
One with a black hoodie, one with a white hoodie.
Black hoodie. White hoodie!
White hoodie. Black hoodie!

They said, “WE WANT YOUR MONEY EVERYBODY DOWN!”
And I’m like, “Oh UGH! Why did I need coffee now?!”
And so
The guy in black starts comin’ down,
down...

I’m backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up
Cause my daddy taught me good
I’m backin’ the hell outta there
And I’m like oh my God, oh my God, my God

I’m backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up, backin’ up
Cause my daddy taught me good

And I think maybe I should faint. But I don’t. NO
My daddy taught me good.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Walk Off the Earth's song Backin Up Song depict a comical yet relatable scenario. The singer narrates an incident where they witnessed a robbery while they were making coffee. Two men wearing black and white hoodies enter the room and demand everyone to hand over their money. The singer initially panics but then remembers being taught by their father to back away from danger. The repetition of the phrase "backin' up" emphasizes the urgency of the situation and the singer's determination to escape.

The humor in the lyrics lies in the contrast between the seriousness of the situation and the absurdity of backing away while repeating the phrase. Additionally, the refrain "My daddy taught me good" reinforces the idea that the singer's survival instincts were instilled in them by their father. This notion of parental guidance and protection is a common theme seen in popular culture.

Overall, the Backin Up Song is a fun and catchy tune that highlights the importance of being aware of your surroundings and having a plan in case of emergencies.

D'oh!!!!! >.<

Until 2 days ago the only clip I watched, made by WOTE, was this one. I kept it in my favourites for over 12 months and would often revisit simply because I love both the vocalist's voices.

Finally, I had the good sense to check out their other clips. What can I say? I had no idea just how amazing they are and, best of all, I get to hear them sing more! Plus, I discovered Sarah, their female singer, with a voice I can only describe as enchanting. They are easily the best cover band I have ever seen.

The other day, when I 'discovered' WOTE, I ended up spending the entire night watching all their clips, it was easily the most enjoyable time I ever had watching Youtube. Since then, I have downloaded all their music on iTunes and they have a new fan. Couldn't believe it when I saw they're touring the UK and will be performing in Manchester next month. I'm there. Really interested to see what the crowd will be like. I suspect it will be completely random with both young and old people showing up to appreciate these awesome musicians. Those are the best crowds, no egos, no trouble, just there to enjoy.

But, it gets better, dear reader! While listening to the Vol 1 LP by WOTE, I noticed the Backin Up Song was on it and it was the full version! Well...that sealed it for me... I LOVE WOTE!!! =P

Looking forward to seeing you April 25th WOTE! You guys are amazing!
