In less than a year, WALLER has evolved from a straightforward folk duo to a full-band powerhouse. The band is just as comfortable roaring through a country classic as they are pulling at your heart strings with a tender ballad. With deceptively simple songs, WALLER has stood out amidst the crowded music scene as something truly special: a group of good friends making great music.
WALLER has been winning over audiences with their soulful and authentic style; turning each show into a grand family reunion. Their songs ring with the comfort of home, drawn from a deep well of community and kinfolk. They are often compared to legends such as The Carter Family, John Prine, or Alison Krauss & Union Station. WALLER is not afraid to call on the traditions of artists who have come before and stay song-oriented maintaining their stature as an unmistakably modern band.
Always a sought-after favorite at festivals and gatherings, WALLER is emerging as a familiar voice on both local and regional radio. These sincere musicians are exploring their musical heritage while bringing a soulful energy to their live performance. They have gained respect from many in the southeast music industry, including Atlanta’s 94.9 The Bull and 88.5 WRAS Georgia Music Show.
Much of WALLER’s expansive sound can be attributed to their new line-up of accomplished touring and recording musicians: drummer Adam Lavinsky; guitarist Zachary Caplan; keyboardist Tim Kohler; and bassist Justin Roberts. These supporting musicians enable the band to switch gears from the sweetness of a country ballad to the dirt and grit of a bluesy rock grind in the blink of an eye.
The heart of WALLER is the sound of new growth, from the deep roots of Southern music - roots that produced the great American musical styles of Country, Blues, Rock n’ Roll, and Jazz. WALLER is a band from Georgia, born of the Americana tradition, yet raised in the modern age.
Honeysuckle Rose
Waller Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When they see you out with me
Goodness knows
You're my honeysuckle rose
When you're passin' by flowers droop and sigh
And I know the reason why
Goodness knows
You're my honeysuckle rose
You just have to touch my cup
You're my sugar
It's sweeter when you stir it up
When I'm taking sips from your tasty lips
Seems the honey fairly drips
Goodness knows
You're my honeysuckle rose
Goodness knows
You're my honeysuckle rose
Don't buy sugar
You just have to touch my cup
You're my sugar
It's sweeter when you stir it up
When I'm taking sips from your tasty lips
Seems the honey fairly drips
Goodness knows
You're my honeysuckle rose
In Waller's song "Honeysuckle Rose," the lyrics suggest the singer is in a relationship with someone who is as sweet and desirable as a honeysuckle rose. The song starts off with the imagery of a honey bee being envious when they see the singer with their partner. This could be interpreted as a metaphor that suggests the singer's partner is so sweet and desirable that it would cause jealousy in anyone around them. The following lines are expressing the idea that the partner's presence causes all the flowers to droop and sigh as if they are sad or longing for the attention of the partner.
The chorus, "Don't buy sugar, you just have to touch my cup, you're my sugar it's sweeter when you stir it up," is a metaphor for the sweetness and desire that the partner provides. The lines "When I'm taking sips from your tasty lips, seems the honey fairly drips," continue the metaphor that the partner is like honey, which emphasizes the sweetness of the relationship. All in all, the song makes a case for the partner of the singer being so desirable and sweet that she is equal to a honeysuckle rose.

Loved Fats way back when, and now, aged 87, still do. Introduced my 23 year old grandson to "Your feet's too big" which produced a great laugh. Will always remember in particular "When somebody... which will go with me to my grave. Cheers to all Fats' fans. Keep on playing, and enjoying him. England, December, 2023.
