Well I wish
I was a catfish
Swimmin deep down in blue sea
I would have all you good lookin′ women,
Fishin, fishin after me
Sure 'nough, a-after me
Sure ′nough, a-after me
Oh 'nough, oh 'nough, sure ′nough

I went to my baby′s house,
And I sit down oh, on her steps.
She said, "Now, come on in now, Walter
You know, my husband just now left
Sure 'nough, he just now left
Sure ′nough, he just now left"
Sure 'nough, oh well, oh well

Well I wish I was a catfish
Swimmin deep down in blue sea
I would have all you good lookin′ women,
Fishin, fishin after me

Goodnight Dortmund, thank you

You been a great audience thank you

Overall Meaning

The verse "Well I wish, I was a catfish, swimmin deep down in blue sea, I would have all you good lookin' women, fishin, fishin after me" is a metaphor for the dream that many men have which is to be wanted by women. The catfish represents the elusive man that many women desire, but cannot seem to catch. The blue sea serves as a metaphor for the endless amount of opportunities and possible partners that are out there for the man who is elusive and attractive to women. The singer believes that if he were a catfish, women would be fishing for him all the time, trying to snag him as their own.

The second verse "I went to my baby's house, and I sit down on her steps. She said, ''Now, come on in now, Walter, you know, my husband just now left' " seems to be a real-life situation where the singer goes over to his lover's house, but she tells him that her husband had just left. This could be interpreted as the singer having an affair with a married woman. The fact that her husband had just left could mean that she is available for him now or it could simply mean that she is trying to get rid of him.

Overall, this song is about the fears and desires that many men have when it comes to women. The catfish represents the man that many women want, but also the fear that men have of being trapped and caught by women. The singer seems to be struggling with these fears and desires, trying to find a way to balance them.
