Originally called Hu… Read Full Bio ↴Wang Chung is a British new wave musical group.
Originally called Huang Chung which is Chinese for "perfect pitch" (though they later claimed it was the sound a guitar made on American Bandstand), the band formed in 1979. The lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Jack Hues, bassist Nick Feldman, saxophonist David Burnand a.k.a "Hogg" and drummer Darren Costin. Their self-titled debut was released by Arista Records in 1982 after several singles, including the minor post-punk hit "Isn't It About Time We Were On TV". In 1983, after being dropped by Arista and signed to Geffen Records, they changed their name to Wang Chung (at Geffen's suggestion, to make pronunciation easier for English-speakers) and subsequently they released Points on the Curve, which yielded two major hits, "Don't Let Go" and "Dance Hall Days"
In 1986, Costin left the band and Hues and Feldman continued to record. The same year, they had their biggest hits: "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and "Let's Go", both from the album Mosaic. Not long after releasing their final album The Warmer Side of Cool in 1989, Wang Chung disbanded in 1991.
In June 2005, Hues and Feldman reunited as Wang Chung on the reality TV series Hit Me Baby One More Time, performing "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and a cover of "Hot in Herre" by Nelly.
Shortly after, in postings at WangChung.com as well as the band's MySpace site, there was news of a new Wang Chung album being worked on by Hues and Feldman. In an e-mail response from Hues, he said, "We are shooting for a release around the March 2006 time frame and a tour in May. We are not sure who we are touring with yet, maybe Heaven 17 or Devo". Also on the band's MySpace, you can hear new clips such as "Hot In Herre" (The Nelly Cover) and a new song "I Was Abducted by the 80's".
Betrayal

I was all you ever really knew
When we met it was like a dream
For all I knew we could not fail
But now I know of your betrayal
Living in the older part of town
I worked all hours I could to bring us 'round
But deep inside I watched it fail
And now I know of your betrayal
Your betrayal
If only I could hold you close
But now I know how love grows frail
When I asked if you'd leave me
Or 'bout the boyfriends you'd had
You said you'd stay with me always
And that you'd never be bad
But I would notice a smile
That you would hold within
As if your vanity flirted
With your knowledge of sin
Now you're quiet and cold
Your eyes just stare into space
And if I ask you to talk
You just dissemble your face
And the smile that I hated
Is now a frown of denial
And that's how I know of your unspoken betrayal
Oh, that's how I know of your unspoken betrayal
Now I wish that I'd set you free
But I was terrified that I would fail
And now I know of your betrayal
Your betrayal
If only I could hold you close
But now I know how love grows frail
Oh now I know of your betrayal
Now I know of your betrayal

The lyrics to Wang Chung's "Betrayal" tell the story of a relationship that started out strong, but ultimately crumbled due to the betrayal of one person involved. The song describes the singer's realization of their partner's infidelity, hidden behind a facade of denial and coldness. They recount their memories of the relationship's beginnings, when everything seemed perfect, and contrast those with the reality of what they now know.
The first verse recalls their initial meeting and the hope and confidence they felt in their future together. However, as time went on, the singer began to notice signs of their partner's disloyalty. The second verse describes the singer's hard work to support them as their partner's career began to falter. Despite this, the partner's true intentions were revealed in the end, leading to the singer's heartbreak.
Throughout the song, there is a strong theme of betrayal and the difficulty of coming to terms with it. The singer has to face the fact that the person they loved was not who they thought they were, and it is a painful realization. The lyrics are emotional and reflective, showcasing the depth of feeling that comes with heartbreak and betrayal.
