Love Me
War Tapes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walking through the alleys
Working through your vanities
Here comes another lesson
The lesson is life

Love me

Walking through the heavens
Walking with your devils
Here comes another lesson
The lesson you'll live, the lesson is life

Love me

I'm only interested in paradise
I'm only interested in paradise
I'm only working, working, working
Working, working, working, working so hard

I'm only interested in pure white light
I'm only interested don't want to fight
I'm only working, working, working
Working, working, working, working, working so hard

Love me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to War Tapes's song Love Me are contemplative and seem to describe a journey through life. The first two lines suggest that the singer is moving through life's obstacles and trying to overcome personal shortcomings or vanities. The repeated line "Here comes another lesson / The lesson is life" is a reflection on the idea that life is a continuous learning experience. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "love me," could be interpreted in a few different ways. It could represent a plea to be loved, or it could be a self-affirmation - a statement of the singer's self-worth.

The second verse shifts the focus from the physical world to the cerebral world. The singer is "walking through the heavens" and "walking with your devils," suggesting an internal struggle. The phrase "the lesson you'll live" is a reminder that we are the architects of our own lives, and that every decision we make has consequences. The chorus is repeated again, with the line "I'm only interested in paradise" serving as a sort of mantra - the singer is working hard to achieve their own version of paradise, and seeks to be loved along the way.

One interesting aspect of the song is the use of juxtaposition. Lines like "walking through the alleys / working through your vanities" and "walking through the heavens / walking with your devils" suggest a push-pull dynamic between the physical and internal worlds. Another interesting point is the repetition of the phrase "the lesson is life," which acts as a sort of anchor throughout the song. The use of the word "paradise" also conjures up interesting images - what does paradise mean to the singer? Is it a specific place or feeling, or something more abstract?

Overall, Love Me is a thought-provoking song that explores themes of self-discovery and perseverance. The simple chorus serves as a powerful reminder that we all deserve love, no matter what journey we are on.

Stumbled upon their show in Hollywood a year ago. Was totally impressed! Don't know how they haven't gone mainstream yet. Best wishes to them!

These guys are phenomenal. I haven't heard anything like this since the late 80's! Love it!

Unfortunate this song didn't blow up. Heard it once on a radio station in Indiana back in 2009.. and that was it.

One of the best bands that should have made it bigger than they did. So fucking good!!!! ❤️

There's definitely a strong Cure influence - even the video has an In between days feel to it. Just found out about this band today reading a local music scene newspaper - glad I did. Love them.

I saw this band play at a place in baltimore, opened for tiger army. The lead singer was starring at me the entire time he sung. I was on a date with a guy from my college, he commented how the singer wouldn't stop staring at me. I'll never forget it.
