WHB is based on Warren's musical roots and love of soul music. Thre are 2 discs from WHB "Tales of Ordinary Madness" and "Man in Motion" have been released as Warren Haynes but both releases are focused on soul sounds and less on the bluesy\jazzy sounds of Gov't Mule, Allman Bros and other jam bands Warren is known for...
The 2011 release\tour has been focused on funky grooves with Warren's guitar giving way to interplay with the sax, keyboards and backing vocalists. Often Warren has taken backseat to the sweet soulful sounds of the band letting the feeling of the rhythm and tones creep in to your heart... only to blow you off center with his soaring driven guitar solos sneaking up on you.
Overall the sounds created by WHB have funky city groove with heart and soul a mile wide.

Spotlight moon shining over head
This part of the city sleeps with one eye open
Bars on the door protection by the bed
There's a child with a gun tired and on the run
Black brown blue what does it matter?
And there's 15 more down on every corner
Fire in the kitchen
Fire in the kitchen burning down
Fire in the kitchen fire
Lord send us some cool cool water or
Ain't nobody gonna get no sleep tonight
Cold day another cold cold day in hell
What you sow so shall ye reap
Bedlam spreading like a rumor
Can't take people and push them out in the street
Fire in the kitchen
Fire in the kitchen burning down
Fire in the kitchen fire
Lord send us some cool cool water or
Ain't nobody gonna get no sleep tonight
There's a child with a gun tired and on the run
Black brown blue what does it matter?
And there's 15 more down on every corner
Stranded no place left to turn
The Warren Haynes Band's song "Fire in the Kitchen" is a poignant reflection on the harsh realities of inner-city life. The lyrics describe a city where danger and violence are ever-present: "bars on the door" and "protection by the bed" suggest a city where crime and insecurity are everyday facts of life. Amidst this violent atmosphere, a "child with a gun" is "tired and on the run", while "15 more" are "stranded with no place left to turn".
The repeated refrain of "fire in the kitchen" suggests a sense of urgency and danger that permeates the song, and the plea for "cool cool water" becomes a metaphor for relief from the violence, oppression, and despair that the song describes. In this way, the song speaks to the human capacity for resilience and hope in the face of adversity. Overall, "Fire in the Kitchen" is a powerful and evocative commentary on the social and political issues that continue to shape our world.

Best song on one of my favorite albums. I got to see Warren open for and play for the Dead from the front row at Deer Creek. He did not play this that day.. Because if he had I would have died and gone to heaven. He's a dynamite talent and this song is the mf jam.
